i am new to the world of mini z and am getting an overland on monday. who here actually broke in their motor using the water method or any other way. my old man used to race 1/10 and said on a motor this size as long as you did not run it flat out first few times , it was basically plug and play as the difference would be neglible. i would like to have the best beginning of life for this motor ,but if it is just a small diff. in performance , is it worth the hassle?

i just take the throttle trim and set it to where the motor is at a low rpm and leave the car running for 10 min. then thats it, your done... or you can do the water way. Either works fine.

i simply hook the battery up to a single AAA for 5-10 minutes or so. I think it is for piece of mind more than anything beneficial because of the size of the brushes..they are pretty bloody small. I may try the water method one day...i still have difficulty getting my head around the electricity and water thing;)hehehe...i will probably do it with a motor I don't care about first;)hehehe:D

Who does it? Hardcore racers do it.
Average Joe... Trow da battries in and let her rip!

Z-tip: breaking in a motor? Uncontaminated water is nonconductive. (no short)

I don't give a rat's a$$ about Willis.;)

This Thread actually belongs in Mini-Z Science but I'll let it live ;)

My answer was no, not on a standard or X-Speed 'Z motor as these 130's are such basic motors.
On the MZR-BB/NML BB motors I did run them slow for a little while, then I progressively give it more throttle.

On my bigger RCs, yes I do, but then again they are real motors, not commodity 6V 130's.
