got an overland today (thanks mini-z, nice to have it a week before it normally would have come!), and its COOL AS HELL!!!!!! anyway, its really late, or really early in the morning, depending on how you look at it, and i cant drive it, cause itll wake everyone up. so i got bored and made a custom bull bar, snorkel, and CB antennas (mainly cause theyre fun to make:p ) anyway, all i did was take some old parts tree/sprue/what model parts are attached to, and used a lighter to heat it until it was bendable. the rest is pretty obvious. keep in mind this was not planned, and took about 20 minutes total.

i have no idea why this pic is so blurry, but ive already put the digicam up, and im lazy, so deal with it.

sweet!

I like the bullbar especially, but I can't spot the CB antenna? Is it mounted to the back bumper?

Look all the way to the left in the first picture BLiND. On the rear bumber, well, it goes out and around the bottom of the bumber, then up! You should be able to see it.

I like the bumper the most! Its functional!

Overlands are tougher than CLKs.

i like the look of your grille guard. i wanted to make a funtional one though. i only had thin, stiff steel wire. it turned out ok, but doesn't have the right look or scale yours does.

I bet your CB antenna was just making use of dripping plastic ;) any way yank that thing off there, dip your actual antenna in the plastic make your little springy details at the base... put a scale tennis ball on it ;) and screw the antenna and the lead wire to the bottom of bumper ;) (add plastic there to screw into if u have too) then u have a PURPOSFUL CB antenna.

that is a great idea! i'll have to try that.

arch, yours looks cool, you just oughta raise it some. it looks like you put a dip in the support for some reason, which really killed your approach angle.

drac, do you have any idea how much work it would be to just get the body on and off if i did that? cool idea tho

no more then it already is... (wire connector)

And as far as I can tell (I was gona say the same thing) he did that dip so the suspension will work, it apears attached to the frontal area of the chassis (wich moves up down with tires) it should be relocated to some sort of screw into the body type mount, maybe fill it in with some plastic filler, and put some screw holes in there and screw it in... or if its supose to function more then for looks, then there should be some sort of over the front area extention to scrw the thing to so it stays attached to the center static part of the chassis.

oh, yea, gotcha. i was thinkin it was attached to the body, which its clearly not (mine is - not at all functional)

drac has it right. i put the dip in to allow for full movement of the suspension. if you look at from a parallel anlge, it's no lower than the bottom of the shock mounts, so no real loss in clearance. my reasoning for trying this location for its connection point was to distributed the impact to the chassis and keep it from from the body. attaching it to the body diminsihes its effectiveness to almost nothing. it become cosmetic rather than functional. the sacrafice is the brush guard does not stay parallel to the body at all times, it moves with the chassis.
i welcome any ideas to incorporate both functionality and cosmetics into the design. i don't see why a bumper or guard can't look like it's real counterpart rather than someting for z racers.

as for dracs antenna idea, if you use a comfortable length of rather flexble wire (coated) to attach to the stock antenna connection and a removeable connection on the inside of the bumper, it shouldn't add any to the level of difficulty there already is in removing the body. you could arch it over the roof and have a hook like connection by the front door/roof area to hold it even. the scale tennis ball would be the great and funny.

yea, mines not functional, but it looks cool! when i bought mine, i knew the body would get screwed up, so im not too worried about protecting the body

as for dracs antenna idea, this is getting too difficult. i quit.:p
