View Full Version : Overland Lights Suck

I tried to explain this back in early December. No one could reply because I was the only one on this forum using lights back then.
Hopefully by now others have tried the light kit MZW16V. This is the recommended kit but does not work properly because of the type of speed control with the break function.
This kit works properly with the mini-Z Racer speed controls only.
On the Racer, the lights stay on all the time and the tail lights go bright when the throttle is off, simulating break lights (very cool too).
With the Overland (and F-1 if you wanted) the lights only come on when the throttle is on. When you stop, the lights go out. Lame:mad:
Tis is so lame, I had to hard wire my lights to 2 flat lithium ion cells, and I put a switch just below the licence plate. The break lights dont dim like they're supposed to, but at least the lights stay on all the time.

can you show how you attached the rear lights on the pajero. like where to drill etc. outside and inside shotw would be nice. i'm thinking of maybe adding in the front lights only if it looks like to much hassle.

I'm thinking of using the HPI light kit that is designed for the HPI micro RS4, and wiring that into the battery tray power?
have you tried wiring your kyosho light kit into the wire lead that goes to the switch at the bottom of the overland? Seems like that would work to me

BLiND,
I don't do lights. :)
IMHO theyre just more hassles, I know they look really good, but I'm more focussed on traction.
The Micro light kit could probably be adapted, however the wires would have to be shortened, as the Micro is a lot longer than the Mini-Zs.

I tried the Micro RS 4 lights wired directly to the battery.
It does not work.
The lights go dim to off when you throttle. It pulls all of the juice to the motor and leaves none for the lights.
Indeed a hassle, but ya gotta have lights!

I too would like to see detailed installation pics of rear lights, both pre-drilled Landcruiser and custom-drilled Pajero.
I have a Pajero and am unsure as to where to drill the rear light holes. I want it to look as nice as possible.

overlander-
i made my own light set tonight. i had grand ideas or front, rear and overhead lights but i only had 4 leds. i have them wired to use either a seperate battery source or the overland itself. it also has a switch wired in so i can turn it off and on as i wish. as i only had 4 crapy yellow leds, this is temporary. when i get the time, i'll replace the leds with better ones and add rear lights. i might add 2 more roof lights. i want to make a light bar for the roof rack. i'm proud of it, i know it works! i just have to refine it.
