View Full Version : I'm board gimme yer track space...
2002.01.05, 01:22 PM
measuer out the area you have for track space, included angled walls so it will fit, and walk around it space, if you want any... I will see if I can come up with a "fun" track for that space... I have no space of my own yet... other then a room full of junk that needs to be cleaned, but that wont happen till certain people finish moving out ;)
Specify if it will only be one driver or more, cuz with 1 car for a practice track space can be reused ;). more of a course, then a track.
The stranger the area to fit the track the more fun it will be to fit the track in the space ;).

I have a 9x7' concrete slab patio.. I suppose with "seating" it could be 7x7" :)
8 feet X 8 feet :) I'd leave an inch or two so I can put up walls so the cars won't fall off :)

how can you race with only 8x8? I have a 14x8 track and i think its too small. btw does anyone have any good track layouts for a 14x8 space? all i came up is a stupid U shape track thats getting boring....
With that :)
2002.01.05, 09:16 PM
That looks like a really small track...How can you drive your car on that? Is your Z modified for speed? I have a stock Z with rechargables and its still hard to drive in 2 feet lanes. Maybe its just my wreckless driving. :D

First attempt at the 9x7 one, started a 2nd but it looked stupid.. to symetrical.. hehe I was board with the 7x7 idea so I moved the standing area to give longer track.
The width is only 400mm though... I figured it was a bit on the cramped side so made it what I think should be the min track width.
hehehe, sweet, pit area too :) I like it! How wide did you make the lanes, or did you just go at it?
2002.01.06, 12:40 AM
How wide are your lanes drac.? Looks like a nice trackout.
2002.01.06, 12:44 AM
As that reply says 400mm ;) that gives about just under 4" for each of 4 lanes... 406.4mm = 16" (1"=25.4mm)
2002.01.06, 12:11 PM
I like it! Need to get some garden hose :)
2002.01.06, 05:12 PM
Draconious, what about a second or even third level for longer track when you work with tight spaces? Have seen some nice looking around the net:) .
2002.01.06, 11:30 PM
I've done it on my personal designs, was going to edit the request into the post... but I figured that would require extra work that cant be done with a garden hose track ;).
One could theoreticly make an entire transparent 2nd level... if grippy glass were to exist ;) and double the track space... if not a 3rd 4th etc if its transparent ;) but thats getting rediculous...
I wonder if filling the garden hose with that super foam in can stuff... that gets realy big when it leaves the can ;), for sealing windows etc... hehe. make one ridgid hose... but might bee too strong. Often the ramps to get to the 2nd level take up as much room as the upper level gains...
I do have an idea for those with a cathedral ceiling, especialy if there is a balcony over looking the majority of the room below (the stairs and balcony make good driver stands) ;) (muhahaha) -- If i get pictures of such a room with dimensions I can come up with a #1 track design ;), but doubt any one has such a room, even if the room is being used for dinning table etc... but you gota be willing to ALTER the room a little. This has to do with my ReALY WIerD placE to PuT a Track i brought up in a reply to another thread. And this track also saves space ;) but you have to be a real diehard mini-zer to do this track, cuz it will be semi permanent with minor altering... muhahaha! -- Heck if yer local to me I will help you build the blasted thing cuz I want to see it done!! Will be kinda pricy though ;)... and thats not including decorations... hehehe. --- And those of you who cought on to the idea by now... "yes I am insane".
Are there pics on the net of a 3+ level track? I'm working on a 2 level with a 12'x16' base.
2002.01.07, 05:41 PM
A picture no, but I had a 8 level concept in cad ;) its totaly insane and the driver cant see half the track, would have to move around as the car changes levels hehe...
but here is my slightly more realistic multi level track: its kinda too simple just 4 straights stacked on top of each other ;).
http://members.home.net/draconious/Images/Mini-Z_Track.jpg -- an even more realistic version would be to reduce it to just 2 layers.
2002.01.07, 08:16 PM
KILLER tracks Draconious, That multi level is GREAT!!!!!
Would you happen to have anything for a 13x6 area
I would be for 2 cars at a time.
Thanks in advance

:) Draconious, if you are trying to build with the foam, try "meelting" it with a hot airgun or a powerful hairfan. The foam will get hard like acrylic glas. I it fells to weeak just add a new layer of foam and melt that down to. I used to build several terrarium background with this technic with 6 to 8 layers.

The 14x8 concept... not exactly what I was going for, too much extra space, but i left "ideas" in dark grey possible changes... and if its a room the space could be used to stand to operate the car... I need to know if room is needed for drivers ;) seating, etc... like the big red space in the first pic above.
2002.01.11, 04:33 AM
I was hoping for a real challenging space, something that wasnt exactly square, like a room with angled walls, or some furnature or someting that cant be moved...
Still will draw a few concepts... will do high level over passes on the rear if a wall is specified as the rear etc...

Dracanious, if you are still board, I would like to see youre idea of a track, my space is 4 meters long, 2meters high besides the first meter, this is 1.60meter.
thanks a lot and good luck.
b.t.w. I calculated 40 cm for every peace off the track, this is my idea of a track but i'll bet that you can do this much better.
2002.01.13, 10:35 PM
This one is based on yours... is that 1.6m area straight? or angled? might be able to cram more track in ;). This is slightly more then 40cm more like 42.5 @425mm just about 17" wide for others reading ;).
2002.01.13, 10:41 PM
Dont Think I ever posted this 14x8 foot one... from the top of the thread here...
2002.01.14, 12:30 AM
what about me 11 x 15
2002.01.14, 02:52 AM
You're fast, no the 1.60meter is angled to 2meter, in a straight line, the widt of the track is no problem, I have slightly more space
I want to make the track mobile so I can put it up to the wall, therefore the weird measurements.
2002.01.14, 02:55 AM
Good cuz that little nitch and the size ratio to number of passes made it kinda goofy shaped ;) flattening out the curve would work way better...
I guess I should also say, if any one wants criss crosses etc.. some dont like them due to car crash, but for 1 car practice its kidna hard to hit another car ;) -- and some like to have to time it to not hit the other cars, 2 cars is no big deal 6 would be a pain.
2002.01.14, 03:23 AM
Like this? this time I got 450mm curb to curb, wich is what I have been trying to draw them all at. If this is how the boarder is, it sure it fit better ;).
Note: on all tracks the gray is optional changes that could be left in the track... but im sure you all figured that out.
11x15 feet? Any thing more complicated then a simple box to worry about?
2002.01.14, 07:00 AM
ehehe sorry it was late i never thought of makin it into even numbers
2002.01.14, 07:02 AM
it was very late, i was tired
2002.01.14, 03:14 PM
Dracanious, thanks a lot , now i've got work to do
2002.01.14, 09:44 PM
Thanks for the time to make a track for me Drac. Now I got work :D
