View Full Version : puegot headlight solution

here's my peugeot headlight solution....

no matter how much plastic i removed on the headlights (using a dremmel to remove the excess plastic on the headlights), it always seemed to get in the way of the front wheels  so i just decided to take it all out :p

i got a piece of material that would approximate the looks of the headlight from some sort of bag of chips (i.e. doritos, leys)... cut out a piece that was near to the ripple at the top (in the picture, its right next to the scissors) and stuck it in place of the original headlight with masking tape...

http://mini-zracer.com/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=6865

and here's it finished... which one is the original?

http://mini-zracer.com/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=6866

kinda looks good, plus the wheels/tires don't rub anything anymore :D

oh yeah extra link.... coolest collection of miniz's i've ever seen...

Excellent work.

I love the looks of this body. Could you post a pic of your chassis set up.

Not sure if my motor mount will wor with this.

Thanks

I did almost the same thing....I just took off the silver backing, and painted the clear lenses silver on the back side. Looks fine, can't really tell the difference, especially when the car's moving :)

that's a really good way of preventing rubbing.... i think i'll try that, cuz my S2000 has the same problem.... but the wheel touches the lights when the suspension goes down...

ghost...

here is a picture of my setup... using the peugot will require the kyosho high motor mount setting... and will take a while for you to get used to driving.... i put some lead weights taken from the tamiya mini4wd and stuck some under the motor mount to lower the cg in the back and put some weight up in front to balance it off (more or less) :D

you can also add a kyosho rear shock in the back by turning the whole assembly around... like what i did to my vitz...

herman

this is the rear shock on my vitz... kyosho just came out with a rear shock for the high mount... still not available here... so in the meantime this will have to do...:D

if you can't solve it by using the dremmel, try putting in hard front springs, that way they won't compress as much, and you hopefully won't have any rubbing against the headlight assembly

Herman,

The 206's rub-a-dub-dub problem goes beyong springs.
A full-lock turn either way will have the tyres rubbing on the inner headlight moulds.
Obviously, this can be dialled out using the steering response setting on thr TX. I just thought I'd add that :D

I am still to make the mods, I have got the headlights out and I've also ground away the posts that held the inner headlight moulds. Do I follow your lead, or just paint the headlights silver, like Russ did?

Decisions...decisions.......

Thanks Russ,

Actually, it doesn't look to bad at all. Kind of reminds me of a polycarb/Lexan bodyshell :)

Once finishing this posting, I will continue to finish the headlights on the akward Puggy 206 WRC :D

Herman & Russ,

Examining the pictures of your lovely yellow 206's, I decided to get one for myself too..
YUp, there's something about that colour yellow that catches my eye.
Also, the metallic paint on my blue one will get scarred when I race it..

Now to try and hunt down some Tamiya 206 WRC warterslides...
Any idea where? I sure don't want to buy a Tamiya kit just for decals...

hi guys...

just finished my 1999 peugeot 206 wrc over the weekend...:D it wasn't easy , had to cut some 1/24 tamiya decals to fit...
i think i could've done better, but it seems ok overall...

as you probably know, the real 1999 peugeot 206 wrc specs were supposed to be on a white car and the lion logo is supposed to be blue... it looks a lot darker on the yellow body, almost black...

russ, i got the decals at a lhs, luckily they sell them as surplus, and have lots of it in stock... :D

Russ and Herman,

I know you both have yellow 206 WRC's (As do I now) :)

Here's a pic of the yellow 206 being used in the British rally series:

Hehehe, that looks sweet!! I haven't seen a real yellow 206 before, just the white one in the current competition we get in the US on Speedvision.

Herman, your car looks awesome with those decals! But PLEASE, it's Peugeot, not Peugot!!!

(Can someone correct the title of this thread?? :))

Mondo

dj_raoul,

I don't believe the Thread title can be ammended at this time.

Either way, we all know it's a Pug, Puggy, Pugsley <--- names they call Peugeot's in the UK or a Peugeot.

I think Herman got the message though anyway..

If you're going to paint the headlight silver.........paint the inside of the light silver....looks much better ^_^

I just took my dremel to it, and cut off half of the buckets, then re-glued the peacies in. Then I ground down the niples on the end... works fine

Another way of preventing the wheel touching the lights, even if grinding is insufficient is to limit the suspension travel. This is done by adding spacers on top of the steering knuckles. You'll want it just thick enough that it won't rub, but not more.

Doing this will affect handling. Sometimes softer springs will bring it back to the way it used to handle. Other times, it actually improves the feel.

to solve the headlight problem on the 206, i created a plastic light mount like subaru has on their wrx's for rallies. find some molded plastic that you like ( i got mine off an old firetruck toy) cut it to shape, and mount on the hood. then set you led's with some little lights out of a wrx mini z (yea i had to pretty much destroy it to get them out. oh well) it adds a little weight to your front but not to much. i will try to post some pics later but my cameras in the shop---hope this helps. if you try this post some pics!
