View Full Version : "Don't Be That Guy" Contest - $100s in Prizes!

2003.08.31, 11:48 AM
RCP-Tracks, whose amazing tracks have been wowing racers across the country at recent expos, have put together a seriously nice package for the "Don't Be That Guy" contest that they suggested. First, see this thread to understand the background of this contest:

http://mini-zracer.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=8570

Here's the Rules from RCP:

1) Your entry must be a picture that has a Mini-Z or Overland Theme.

2) The picture must show an event that you experienced, or saw happen, or maybe think could happen.

3) The picture should be of something that would make you and other micro enthusiasts laugh. Not that we are laughing at you, but only because we also have probably experienced the same event or done this before ourselves.

4) The event doesn't have to be completely about something a car is doing, it could be about something the driver did or has done as long as a Mini-z or Overland car is in the picture somewhere.

5) The picture must be of something that might or could actually happen with a Mini-z or Overland. A car on fire, a car being thrown from your roof, a car being thrown from the window of a moving vehicle or any pictures of a Mini-Z's and Overland coming out of body parts will be accepted, but may not get posted and will not gain many points.

6) The picture can be staged. It would be too hard to capture the first time it happened on camera. Photoshop will be accepted. Remember photoshop alone will not get you the win. It is the laughter and the meaning behind the picture that I'm looking for and this picture must be of something that might or could actually happen. Photoshoped pictures of a Mini-Z next to Jeff Gordon racing Daytona will not get many points, but would be fun to see.

7) Even if you have a picture you think won't get you the win, send it in anyway. We all would love to see it and if its funny, great.

8) If you have ever met me in person, you can not win the contest, but feel free to send in pictures anyway. I just want to make it fair and I don't want any unfair advantages to those I hang with.

9) I have submitted a photo to give you some ideas. This picture was not photoshoped. You do not need photoshop to enter a winning photo.

Winner receives:

(1) New Mini-Z F-1 RTR... The car is new and was taken out of the box only for display purposes at the RCX Show last May,2003. I have four styles to choose from. Colors are Red and White, Black, Red or Blue.

(1) Official RCP-Track... You will get one of the first RCP-Tracks off
the assembly line. This is a Pro Micro track with a special Mini-Z track texture, custom side rails and a custom designed side rail attaching system that allows the user to quickly set up the track and can be taken apart and stored in a very small area. The rail design does not scratch the cars and the track can be used for all 1/18 scale cars and smaller and some larger cars as well. I will also include some Overland sections to attach to the road track for some nice off-road racing experience and ride.

(1) Set of foam tires for the Racer or F-1 donated by Mini-ZRacer.com, for those who seek the ultimate traction for there upgraded motors and FET upgrades, or a GPM Delrin Idler gear for Overland entries.

Contest ends 10/15/03, post your entries to this thread! Good luck all! :)

i would like to thank rcp for putting together the fine motivational package for this contest:D mini-z too for the tires;) (which i've run and really like)

here is one from me.....
a blow out with a stock tire may not be critical but with a monster tire it's a whole nother story. even the donut will not keep this ol on the track:p (this was an actual event, hit the brick and pop, off goes the wheel)

OK this would be a lot funnier if I had my Hummer Overland that i was gona get for the photo... or at least a land cruiser with a luggage rack and maybe tie him to the roof as a "prize.." but here is saddam run over by a mini-z, his chemical weapons shrunk him so he could hide I guess... this ist he one guy NO ONE WANTS TO BE right now ;)

A day at the park...

-The first dog was a machine! As afraid as I was, I couldn't help but think: "I hope he doesn't hurt himself."

I was trying to do my own drifting video after I saw Wedge's drifting video.... It took me about 20 takes to get the correct shot.
Here's a screenshot of one of the failed attempts.

There was too little throttle to slid the rear, and as a result, the car ran wide and hit my OL which was parked outside the corner. The OL's my least favourite Z, so it's no biggie :p

Ok, here's the scenario. You receive your FETs in the mail after waiting a week. You're over excited and screaming like a little girl cuz you can finally get rid of that bulky exterior turbo and swap it for a nice FET stack.

You plug the soldering iron in and wait for it to warm up. While waiting you take the FETs out and look at them in, drooling over their power.

Then when the soldering iron is hot enough to melt the solder, you reach for it. Excited as you are, you forget: ONE END OF THAT SOLDERING IRON IS HOT!!!! OUCH!!!!

That happened more than once in the past. Most recent was last nite when I was doing a FET upgrade. I mistaken the hot part for the handle and grabbed it... lucky it wasn't a hard grip or I woulda killed my hand... Just got a bit red, cold water for 30 mins seemed to help it.

Oh and another word of precaution, do not EVER drop your butane soldering torch... never happened to me, but u can imagine the results... :D

remember a while back I superglued my finger to a Mini-Z body while attempting to glue back the body clips? Well, guess what? I did it again... This time, for the contest. Be careful in how much superglue u use. Superglue gets warm on contact between 2 surfaces, and it's hell to get off. Here are the pics...

These photos are not photoshopped in any way. I have really superglued my thumb to the car. It took me half an hr to get it off.

Welcome Fans! to the 1st annual Monster Mini Z Truck and Tractor Pull!

I'm Chuck Gilmore, your reporter in the Pits and up in the both is corispondent, John Fipple.

It's been a tough competition this afternoon and after the modified stock class there has only been two Full Pulls. We are waiting now for the sled to be changed out for the Pull Off.

With us right now is the driver of the Blue Thunder, Steve Peirce, who has offered to give us a minute.

Chuck: So , Mr. Peirce how are you feeling going into this Pull Off?

Steve: Well Chuck, this is a tough sport, but there is a lot of luck involved. We started out with good dry track conditions , but as you know that can change at any minute! It can get real wet and what a mess it can be! I realy didn't think i was going to make it this far! Ah, we started out with good conditions, but about half way threw my run i felt the sled Give way and i didn't think i was going to make a full pull at that point, but ya know everything happens so fast out there, it's hard to judge things, you just put your foot into it and hope for the best sometimes! Ah, Going into the Pull Off, i feel real confident, thier changing out the sled right now, so we think we should have good dry conditions for the pull off, The truck has been running real strong and if conditions hold we should be able to walk away with a win here today.

Chuck: Well Mr. Peirce i see the sled is Changed out, so we'll let you get back to your preperations and Good Luck out there!

Steve: Thanks, Chuck!

Chuck, Back to you John.

I had it maybe two months , it was cool, if you backed it up and hit the throttle forward it would ride up on the rear bumper in a wheely. Well it was august i think and i was at a family reunion at my parents place in Palmyra NJ and got out the Big Bear to show my nephews. I had it out in the street as it is a nice generaly quiet neighborhood. Well it didn't take long for the whole family to gather to watch me ride wheely's with it and my mother said, if you keep playin with it in the street it's going to get hit! Well as soon as she said that this guy in a Couger comes around the corner doing 50 in a 25 zone and i threw it in reverse to get it out of the street and i don't think it moved two feet and this guy nailed it right on with the front passenger tire! Cawaaaammmm! well he didn't just run it over it lodged under the front of the guys car. A buddy of mine that was there got on his motorcycle and chased him down a few blocks away and said he had to pry it out from under the guys car. Well it actualy ground the Big Bear almost in half at an angle, Looked like a cut away view of the workings as it was ground against the street. It ground thru the right front tire and right to half way thru the suspession. Cut threw the body from the middle of the front bumper back to the side of the Bed on the truck and cut half way thru the rear right side tire. It was actualy pretty neet the way it cut it so clean. Anyway the Big Bear kit was only like 69 bucks, so i figured i would just go and buy another one as it was almost cheaper then a new set of wheels, body and front suspession. Well the hobby shop didn't have anymore , but did have a Marui Toyota Land cruiser kit that was a knock off of the Tamiya Wild Willy ony it had smaller tires, but it had the same chassis as the Big bear so i bought it for like 59 bucks and ordered the new big bear tires and turned it into a wild willy essentialy, but with bigger tires.
Well whats this have to do with dogs...I am getting to that! Some months later i was living on South Broad street in Trenton NJ, not a great neighborhood. I lived in an apartment that shared it's parking lot with the state prison and the APEX lumber company, Well the lumber company had the meanest dog i have ever seen in my life inside a 8ft chain link fence. Well the parking lot was empty most of the time so i ran the Big Bear/Toyota land cruiser in the parking lot, well that dog would go nutz! He'd be foaming at the mouth and looked like any second he would have an anyorism and his head would explode. That dog would run along the fence snarling and foaming at the mouth barking his head off chasing that Wid Willy knock off up and down the edge of the parking lot. My buddy was out there one day and sid you know if that dog ever got ahold of that thing that would be the end of it for sure! I started to tell him i wasn't stupid enough to go off the black top and into the grass anywhere near that fence and as i said that the dog found a hole in the links, i swear was no more then 6 inches around, threw himself into it, buckled the fence out and bit the right front tire clean off, i mean it cut the "A" arm suspenssion clean thru and that fast pulled back thru the fence. I spent the next six months trying to find away to get the wheel back. That no good S.O.B. dog would see me comming and he would grap that tire and shake it around and toss it up in the air, still barking and foaming at the mouth and he would sleep ontop of his dog house with that tire at his feet. I tried going at night and all hours of the day hoping to catch him off somewhere else so i could get a pole or something to try to slide the tire over to the fence, THAT DOG NEVER SLEPT! Marui stoped making the Big bear and parts where impossible to get , i wound up scraping it out for the Radio.

That is true story! I have very good sence of humor and i still have to laugh when i think of that damned dog. I used to be able to remember his name, it was a name i remembered for some time after that, but can't think of it now for the life of me.

When i saw the photo on here i thought of that dog, i don't even want to imagine the horror of that dog could have done to a Mini Z!

I'm sure i am not the only one with a dog story in this group and it's not a phot but i thought i would share that story, since that marui had mre then one interesting mishaps. Not a mini Z story but still.........................

Sorry for the long story! In the past 20 years i have see it all. I've seen Cars burst into flames , I've seen them explode, Hit by cars, which happens to me!, dogs! That's also happend to me! and even saw a guy have his ankle broken by a run away 1/10 car.

Being new to Mini Z's I havent seen much on them, I only got my Overland on the 11th of this month and aside from ripping the side mirrors off in 5 minutes, i haven't had much experience with funny explosions on a mini "yet". I'm certanly not looking to blow up my only Mini Z , just for a picture for the group.

But, i have seen or heard of it "ALL" with R/C 1/10 cars "on and off road" LOL

But, agree, I'll keep posting because it's fun! Just because the contest might be over doesn't mean we have to stop having FUN!

As soon as i can find the time i will be posting many more pictures. I didn't find out about the contest untill a few days before it ended. I still have many funny photo idea's and fun conversions planned for my mini Z Overland. I will post them contest or not. It's fun!

rcer4life, Nice concept.

tip: You can select portions of the image (the cars) that need a blur filter.
That way it implies motion and doesn't look like you just took a shakey pic.
and 640 x 480 pixels is a good file size to view on screen.

This is my official contest entry. Not especially funny or photoshop edited, though this photo is a setup it really happened, many, many times on one race.

They story behind the photo; Last year we were holding mini-z races in my garage during winter. I came up with a "brilliant" idea for corner markers for the track, just a small plastic plate turned upside down. The photo shows what the result of using these plates with pvc pipe was. We each ended up in this position nearly every lap. Needless to say the "corner markers" were used for one race only.

Ken,

I have never used Photo Shop my self, But i have taught Paint Shop Pro to quite a few people in the last few years for painting Dirt Track Sims. Some of those guys make a living at it now! I'm sure the tools , such as Cut, Paste, crop, Etc. are pretty much the same with all graphics programs and I know quite a few tricks and i am also very willing to share what i know.

The moderators are on me to moderate an Engineering section here on the forum and if they keep it up i may have to cave in and say OK......hint, hint!

But back to "Sort Of" the subject. I am surprized there are not alot more entries to this contest. Of coarse the fewer the better the chances of winning! I hope i win! for the fact i want to get a track up in this area, so i can drum up more interest! Slot cars rule here and mini Z's are slot cars out of the slot! I think it could be big in this area if more people knew about them. But, i also feel alot more might have entered if more knew how to play the funny picture game! and even the nice photo's in the gallery show some real talent and if more knew how to play with photos there would be alot more cool pics!

Just a thought

The first, Lead-ft , I thought probably happens to a lot of Mini-Z owners. I can't tell you how many times my son leaves his Z's around the house just waiting to be crushed by the unexpected traffic. There has been many times when someone runs across the track to retrieve there vehicle and accidently step on someone elses car. You don't want to be "That Guy"

The second, fet-o-rama, for some reason just really made me laugh. You really don't want to be "That Guy"

Today has been Prizes Day!
Everything is awesome!

First thing I did was put on the RCP-Tracks polo.

I'm liking the F1 alot more than I thought I would. It's handling great and I haven't even put the rear shock on yet because I wanted to see the difference. The stock setup is really good for this track configuration.

Even though the size of the track is approx. 10'x 13' it seems bigger because it takes up most of my smallish dining room. It set up fast even for the first time but the coolest of all is that there's no comparison to this track surface. Even my poorly handling Racer with FET stack, bb-Xspeed, 30degree tires on narrow wheels, stock H-plate&diff feels well balanced . It won't spin out but gives a subtle slide and will not traction roll. The side rails do very well if the car has a body that protects the front wheels. The rails are even friendlier to the F1.
I still have yet to try the off-road tiles.

The tiles were shipped stacked in pairs. Storing them this way will help expedite installation/dismantle.

I'll have pics at a later date for today is Prizes Day!
