HFAY Season 26, keepin it going

Hi, this is Ty from PDX Mini Z. Brian and I talked about this upcoming fall season and he would like us to help out again. So for Season 26, we will do the invert of season 21.

Season 21 was #6 first. These are for Season 26.

July 2018 = track 13
August = track 1
September = 12
October = 18
November = 6.

We'll be posting the times on our website. www.pdxminiz.com

Also follow on f b search pdx mini z racing club

Brian will probably post the rules and tracks, or you can find them on HFAY Season 25 thread.

Be sure to send me the times through this thread presently.

Cheers, Ty

We do not yet have a location for HFAY tracks. :( Still hoping this will come together and we can once again rejoin the fold but completely out of my hands unfortunately.

Please send in your August times. We will be posting them soon. Thanks,Ty

We are starting a group in Florida and hope to participate in HFAY in the next season.

I saw a list of timing systems that were allowed on the HFAY website. I did not see Easy Lap listed, which is the system we were planning to use. Is that system allowed, or do we need to look at other options to participate?

arch2b 2018.10.25 06:22 AM

I don't see why that would be a problem myself so long as results continue to be submitted in the requested format, I'm sure TyG will respond.

TPDazzle 2018.10.25 08:42 AM

It doesn't seem to be a problem. We've participated for 2 seasons with Easy Lap. I think there is some language in the rules that specifies that other similar systems are okay. I think as long as you have a setup that keeps accurate times and laps, you are fine. HFAY only works with the honor system anyway. I can't speak for Ty, but I would imagine he'd love to have another club involved.

I'm in Ty's club, so I'll speak for him.:D

Of course we'd rather have more participation than less. And you're absolutely correct, HFAY is entirely honor-based. Given the usual prizes and stakes (no money, a plaque), cheating would seem to be pointless. I'd also say that the format of HFAY doesn't really hinge on extreme per-lap accuracy. As long as you aren't missing laps or double-counting, minor inaccuracy would tend to be invisible over 8 minutes. Honestly, most of the fun of HFAY is the mix of competitiveness and encouragement. While there are 3-4 of us on the track in any given heat, we're competing for total laps, not winning the heat or main necessarily. Everyone gets more laps if you kind of work as a team. Some of those guys in the top 3 spots might get a little serious :p but for the most part, everyone wants to see everyone else improve.

That said, EasyLap is highly accurate and on par with any other system from our experience. We use it with Zround.

arch2b 2018.10.25 12:54 PM

Yeah, doesn't make much sense to worry about fractions of a second. 1/10th of a second is likely all the accuracy you'll ever need and even then, only in the rare instances where there are ties. In the end your looking at lap count, time is just the tie breaker essentially.

BladeSling 2018.11.01 02:42 AM

I manage the score posting for the HFAY series at the moment over at the Next Level Timing website. I prefer a system that had full hundredth millisecond support. One this makes it easier to enter the times as I currently do it manually and two it helps make tie breakers fair for those with accurate times. Since hfay does 8 minute races I often see very close times and occasionally laps and times have been close.

I can imagine a scenario where I receive these two times

8:00:011 vs 8:00:01

The less accurate time will take the lead but we have no way of knowing who was actually in it. But I'm software guy so these things will always bother me haha.

arch2b 2018.11.01 08:00 AM

when your a numbers guy, yeah it can bug you. On the practical side, I've rarely seen that need arise. It's not to say it doesn't or couldn't but not that frequent. This would be a non issue if all programs had a HFAY export... and we had a functioning HFAY website that could accept generated reports but that's another issue that doesn't appear to be close to being solved at this point unfortunately. At this point really, I would simply abandon the current site and start fresh. It just doesn't make sense to continue to hold the series hostage to the inoperability of the old site. I still hope to get back to HFAY and crossing my fingers a site will be there by the time I do.
