Inner Sponge Set

What are the advantages of the inner sponge set and which setting hard/soft is better?

arch2b 2004.01.05 03:20 PM

i imaginge they would soften the the imapct from jumps etc. i don't know if you would see real diffference between soft and hard other than how it bounces when it lands. i plan to try the soft set alteast.

...Same here...I am unsure of the benefits of either type but I am guessing the harder sponge might eliminate the 'flex' of the unfilled tires hence enhancing the wheel speed...How the hardness will affect landings I dont know yet...I will be getting a couple of sets of each to test and flow here and there...I reckon the soft will be an all around advantage but have to wait and see their actual hardnesses :)

...The sponges are in and they feel FUNKY !!

...I have a SOFT set in the MEVOMONSTER

...Here a quick spiel to let you know what we thought...

...KYOSHO says in their instructions about this item...

...' The intensity of tires will be improved by installing an inner sponge. The cornering characteristics will become a quick response with inner sponge. The SOFT sponge will aid the shock when jumping and it will improve the tire's grip. Moreover, revolution of the tire will also improve with HARD sponges, and it will be the best for on-road running.'...

*Testing by us has shown exactly that...the SOFT sponges harden your wheel slightly, while still providing better grip than having your tires HOLLOW...The HARD sponges indeed fill up your tires more meaning that any landing after a jump will be moved DIRECTLY to the shocks...The SOFT sponges soak up some landing shock BEFORE the hit engages the shocks :)

*Rolling speed is noticeably faster with the HARD sponges but even the SOFT set improves your straight line speed...

*We RECOMMEND this item to take your monster to a higher level of control and performance :)

...I essentially run my MEVOMONSTER on carpet, wooden floors and japanese tatami...The most it gets bumpy is the brick footpath outside the store and toy-strewn landscape of my sons play area; which is basically all over my small japanese house...Sure the HARD made it faster but I cant help thinking that the HARD sponges will be better suited in a yet to be announced / released low-profile tire set...The benefit of the HARD in the STOCK tire set was negatable, ESPECIALLY if you are still going to be jumping at all...

...The soft are in my machine and there are only benefits to having them in there...Not a HUGE expense to improve the overall handling of my machine...RECOMMENDED :)

bit,
thanks for the review. i look forward ot getting the soft sponges now.

is there a run on front damper mounts over there? i know there will be one when the parts make their way here...

bithed 2004.01.19 09:54 AM

...Arch we are running short on all the goodies...oil shocks are at a premium and the damper stays are getting tricky to find...i have ONE damper stay set left...

...I think you will get a kick outta your sponges mate...a quick and sexy little edition to your monsters wardrobe :)

I wonder.......Will the foams in the new GPM low profiles fit the stock monster tires? Since you can only run one set of tires at a time, you could just swap foams........Anyone tried this yet?

arch2b 2004.02.18 08:46 AM

i'd like to give it a shot;)

the thing that bothers me about the gpm inserts is they are vague about them. kyosho lists thiers as soft and hard so you know what your getting and you can tweak the settings. from the eb@y auctions i've only seen the monster radials liast as "with foam inserts."

all i know is i would rather have the raidal tires since my monster see's more time indoors than out. also since i have my track the radials woudl provide better performance, i hope.

Mr. Furious 2004.02.26 08:03 AM

My radial tires are in the mail. I broke down and bought some on the 'bay. I'm so ashamed. I was buying slicks for my Mini-T anyways so I figured I'd combine shipping. I'll let you know if the foams work with the stock tires when I get them.

arch2b 2004.02.26 08:14 AM

furious- we all cave in once in awhile;)
take some pictures please as i'd like to see them installed and i look forward to your review of them.

i have the kyosho soft foam inserts and they really change the tire characteristics. my monster runs a tad faster on hard surfaces and is faster in the corners etc. wish i had radials:(

btw, have you seen the gpm grooved monster tires on eb@y? they look horrible:eek: i was expecting something along the lines of atimcs grooved tires when i say the auction title however they look like squentially squished donuts...

Mr. Furious 2004.02.26 08:24 AM

I just saw the grooves before I looked back here. You're right, they are poorly executed. Hopefully the radials will be much better than those. I will post review and pics when they arrive....
