UID Helios Skull Wheel...

I needed a break from driving myself insane trying to devise the perfect F1 Motor Mount () so I went ahead and dug this out of my "never sent to the shop" bin:

Let everyone else on that driver's stand know that you mean business! Show them that menacing attitude that says, sure buddy... go ahead and try to take that inside line, just see what happens! Intimidate the other racers instantly, they'll just hang back out of your way and let you have a clear track ahead for those killer lap times you will produce. Watch as the slower traffic pulls aside for you as if they were the Red Sea and you were Moses himself!

Ok, enough... this will only work for the Helios EX10 and EX1ur, not sure about others yet. (I only have so many radios on hand) The skull cover will snap in and out so once I get more options built for these, you should be able to swap them out easily.

Now I'm not taking requests as of yet (club logos, dragons, mermaids, unicorns...) but once I get my mounts done I will head back to this. I do have designs for other types of controllers but time is getting hard to come by once again and there will be a wait.

I have not ordered this yet but I will by the end of this month and will more than likely have a stamp of approval for it soon. So for now... ordering is once again only for the brave! My only worry is the tolerancing, not so much for the snap-in function... more for the connection to the hex on the radios. It's nothing a dremel couldn't fix if that is the case though.

Oh, and if anyone has some extra steering wheels for other popular radios out there... send them my way and I'll draw them up! (4PKs, FlySkys, Airtronics) PM me for details!

No fine print here, just the facts!
I am in no way, shape or form responsible for production or shipping or manufacturing quality of these products. All I can say is that it took 15 days to show up at my house after I ordered it and the quality is top-notch! Shapeways has an excellent record of part quality which is one of the major reasons I went with them for this stuff.

I forgot to note last night that the pop-in skull section in not a solid piece. To save on material I did open the backing up a bit. So un-used material has an area to drop out. This is a pretty intense surface model for my machine to process so modifying it was a bit of a pain. If you can give it a spin on the Shapeways site you'll see where it's opened.

This is awesome! I'd like a pair of knockers. :D

How about just a nice knocker end?

imxlr8ed 2014.01.05 06:00 PM

I could do a knocker but wouldn't it get in the way of steering?

Emoticon O.D. again Larry...

I usually have a serious attitude when it comes to test fitting any of my parts, so much worry about every little surface matching up the way I planned... getting this thing out of the bag and onto my controller just put a huge grin on my face!

It went on first shot, no trimming whatsoever! Kinda tight but who wants a loose steering wheel?! Trimmed off the little tab connection on the deco cover and gave it a push... snapped right in nice and tight!

I'm gonna play around with this some more (painting and such) but as it is now, fresh out of the bag and onto the controller... it's good to go! The detail is way better than I expected, even his little teeth came out really detailed!

More designs to come but I think Skully here will be the default.

Sharpied Skully a bit, make him standout a bit more:

I will be adding a detent feature to keep the deco centers from free spinning inside the wheel. Right now, the deco center will not twist unless I hold him and physically spin it, but just want to put 2 stops in there yet to guarantee a vertical place holder.

I still am amazed by the detail here, the teeth have all their teeth type surfaces! Thinking of painting him gold to match the gold allen heads.

The latest and last revision of Skully is in the shop now, All I did was add a placeholder to the upper detent prong so the deco cap won't spin inside the wheel.

Two new wheels in the shop, one is a dragon medallion and the other is, well... more co-pilot oriented for some out there. :D

I want the dragon!

Pretty cool Ed!

imxlr8ed 2014.02.15 02:53 PM

Thanks!

A few other wheel designs floating around in my head, they will pop-up in the shop occasionally I'm sure. If anyone else has any ideas (other than knockers ), post them up! Detail level is based on the time I want to spend on them... and the software I'm using is perfect for parts and assemblies but it's no sculpting software, that's for sure!

According to some of my crew, they should work for the KIYs too.
