Colored chassis kit

Got two questions for Tim. How come when you purchase the colored chassis kit for the Mini-Z's, weather it be MR01,02,15, or AWD, that they do not include a matching motor mount or motor pod? Is there a reason for it?
Also, you should include yellow for a color option. Amongst clear white, blue, green, and red, yellow would be a nice option among a few other colors.

I think it has something to do with most users using alloy pods. If you think of it the plastic pods don't sell that many. You look at the Overland and Monster options the main chassis sets and servo cases are separate packages. I think there was at one time a clear motor case option part for the monster, but we never seen those. The AWD kit is a full kit even with the wheelnut and pinion tools.

I just thought of something cool, with these clear chassis kits. An internal neon kit would be nice. If someone came up with something that used those tine SMT LED's. That can go inside the chassis and show through it. And you dont have to worry about parts hanging out, to be ripped loose. And have them set off the switch so they light up when the car is on.

i did something similar years ago. i put a 3mm led into a clear mr-01 chassis

That's what I was thinking of.

That's cool, Arch! :D

I was thinking about including it with the clear chassis kit. Why not include a color-matching motor mount?

I think that would be cool, but may be brittle?

marc 2007.01.16 01:03 PM

Ok, I don't understand something. I've heard this same complaint with the AWD smoked chassis kit. Why would lack of pigment, meaning the clear chassis be more ***ile than the solid colored one? And if that's the case, then why not just make the entire chassis kit in optional solid colors? We've seen some yellow bits for the MR02, and red bit's for the MR15. Why not do the entire chassis kit in those colors? And would chrome plating the entire chassis kit be possible?

arch2b 2007.01.16 04:20 PM

pigment may require altering plastic chemical properties thus they are more brittle.

agree'ed, why no solid red, yellow or blue?

chrome coated would be way too heavy, not to mention wreak havoc with tolerances and possibly electronics as well.

marc 2007.01.16 05:02 PM

yea, didn't think about that. But the solid colors would work. After all, as mentioned they already did that with the small parts, why not the entire chassis? A solid white would look good to and pretty trick if you ask me. Or would that make it look to much like Iwaver? Arch, I like your LED'ed chassis, that looks way cool, and much better than having the neon kit. Have you tried it with other colors?

HammerZ 2007.01.16 06:05 PM

After reading up on your goldmember threads, I now see why you want transparent yellow. I think in the past someone did the chassis in gold paint. A painted chassis isn't as good as one with the color molded into it though. I am sure that adding flakes to the plastic would make it brittle as well. Just tossing out another idea. For all those gold parts a green chassis would make them stand out well, green for the money and gold for the honey.

marc 2007.01.16 06:08 PM

I wasn't thinking of adding the gold to the yellow. Or green. I like the gold on the smoked chassis just fine thank you.
I just think transparent yellow would be a nice addition option to the green, red, blue, and clear.

Ninja 2007.01.16 10:41 PM

the solid colored chassis would be cool. A white chassis would be []D[][]v[][]D because you could boil it with RIT Dye and make it any color you want, just like larger R/C Wheels and other nylon parts

marc 2007.01.17 09:04 AM

I think if it was all white it would resemble Iwaver too much and I bet nobody would buy it.

I remembered when I saw the very first photo of a prototype full optioned MR-02MM car it had a clear yellow chassis set, I'm not sure why it didn't go in production. Let me see if I can still find that photo.

EDIT - Okay, here it is...
