Bummed: I broke a knuckle
I was setting up for some Mini-96 Time trials and I lowered my AWD to see how it would handle. Unfortunately I used the Spring spacers instead of the suspension limiters and the car was too low. This made the knuckle sit pretty high up from the rear toe bar. When I put the car into reverse, I clipped the wall.
Since I have the 350 white body on the car, the rear was a little exposed. I heard a crack and my fun with the AWD is over for now. Fortunately, I ordered some camber knuckles just to try them out and they should be here early next week. |
talk about timing :) good thing you ordered those knuckles :)

Okay, so how does the height affect the vunerability of the knuckles?

Height not the issue

Translating this toa real world example... Imagine clamping a pencil to a desk and letting it hang about 6 inches off of the edge. If you grab the pencil 1 inch away from the desk and try to break it, it's going to be difficult. If you grab it 6 inches away from the desk and try to break it, it's going to be pretty easy. You can generate more torque with the same amount of force because you have a longer lever. Maybe it would have broken either way but I think making it too high certainly helped. |
did you order the 3racing or pn alloy knuckles?

I don't know how I am going to like camber and the PN knuckles are something like $20 a pair. I figure I'll get the setup that i like and maybe get those PN knuckles to get rid of that stiction problem. (I think it's the PN ones with the delrin shafts) |
