Ball Diff Ball Diff Ball Diff

Okay. So y'all insist that a ball diff is the best thing since sliced bread. But the question is...why? What is it that makes the car perform better with a ball diff rather than the stock diff?

Me and the other basement racers were wondering...

well, i bought myself a ball diff just the other day, and i noticed some difference in performance. I was playing around with it for a while until I got the best setting, and I noticed that the car spins out less often even on hardwood floor. there is better traction when making sharp turns.

Football is the best thing since sliced bread. Anyway, the ball diff is slight improvement with rubber tires, less spinouts, doesn't come screeching to a halt like with gear diff. The best improvement is with foam tires, though. Good traction, much less spinouts, smooth turns. Traction was so good, I hit a traction roll, bent the antenna though :(

what was the best thing before sliced bread?

butler 2002.01.30 07:47 AM

unsliced bread?

A standard diff drives the wheels depending on which one has the most grip. Due to the fact the motor isn't centrally located on the car, one wheel has less weight on at and less grip so it turns faster and spins the car.

The ball diff provides resistance between the two wheels meaning that one can't turn faster than the other so easily. This resistance is adjustable to.

If you adjusted it really tight the wheel would always turn at the same speed regerdless of grip. This reduces the torque steer but impedes cornering too, because the inside wheel needs to turns slower causing understeer.

If you adjusted it really slack it would behave like a standard and the car spins easily.

If you had lots and lots of grip and never spun the wheels a standard diff would be fine.

Clear as mud I am sure :p

What did people do before, tear off chunks? Maybe just put the whole of in one's mouth? How hard would it be to come up with sliced bread if you have unsliced bread? I dunno, it seems like if you have regular, unsliced bread, sliced bread wouldn't be that amazing.

mini-z 2002.01.30 08:13 PM

Well, they sliced it by hand, vs. buying it pre-sliced...

Chezedog 2002.01.30 09:07 PM

Ok, ok..the best thing since bread that is not only already baked, but sliced in perfect, uniform slices.

Ok, screw that.

Let's say the best thing since...uh. let's see...howabout...The Care Bears Movie!

Yeah, the ball diff is the best thing since the Care Bears Movie!

mini-z 2002.01.30 11:09 PM

butler 2002.01.31 08:43 AM
