mini z tool kit
hey all,
just bought a mclaren f1, my first mini z, and some hop-up parts (ball diff, bearings, etc.) i'm obviously going to have to purchase a set of small screw drivers but i was wondering if you guys could recommend anything else i should pick up while i'm at the hardware store. thanks |
Funny you should mention that, as I am going today to buy new screwdrivers as my current small set does not work on these screws. You may also want to purchase a nut driver that you can use on your whees.

re: small screwdrivers
Don't the Mini-Z size fool you. You'll be better off buying a full-size screwdriver so you don't strip the screw heads. Bring the Z with you to the store.

This has been my experience also. Most of the screws on the chasis are screwed into plastic instead of a nut. This can require alot of torque to get the screw tight, especially on the antenna. I have Mini-Z hex drivers for the wheels and I use scredrivers with a big handle and small phillips head for some of the screws. The smaller Mini-Z screwdrivers just don't have enough grip and head for some of the screws. It is not a bad idea to have one set of each.:)

i have a #0 2 1/2" fat handle philips that works well. i replaced my previous skinny handle one. don't forget to get an allen wrench for the set screws on ball diff collars, some motor clips and various other parts. i wish they made hex head screws or some other format that is less prone to stripping.

thanks for the advice. yes, i used to race 1/12 scale on the carpet years ago and the size of my z has me fooled a little i think. i like the idea of using full size tools instead of eyeglass screwdrivers or something like that. ok great, so i'll guess you guys will hear from me again once i break something.
thanks |
