2 MR-03 Sports questions

Dear all,

I play once a week my MR03 in the club, I started to feel some limitation from my car,

I am using X Speed motor, can anyone tell me what's the fastest motor that I can install in my MR03 without changing anything?

Besides, can I update my transmitter too? My transmitter's wheel is a bit of loose, the black tire looking part always come out...

thanks

I would say 50t or slower unless you upgrade your fets. As for your transmitter there is a higher end model called flysky it4. It is a computer radio with a touchscreen that is a step up from the stock radio. However I suggest looking into getting an asf board or pn spektrum board as the radio options are much better and you will not have to upgrade your fets. Which means you can use a better radio and any motor you want.

How many "t" does X Speed has?

Someone told me MR03 Sports is just for beginner, so I wonder if upgrate my car too much will be meaningless. Is it worth to update a new board?

it4 looks pretty neat, I am still a newbie in RC world, is it4's setup difficult to do?

I don't know I don't have any expereince with the IT4. However upgrading your board is very important upgrade. The asf boards are faster and allow you to use higher end radio like ex1 kiy or ko propo eurus. It should be something you consider but I am not saying that you have to use the other board. The sport is adequate enough and unless you are looking to be a contender in the amian I don't think it is absolutely neccesary. But a good radio is neccesary.

I would try using some double sided tape to stop your steering rubber from spinning on the wheel. No point in replacing stuff that works unless you're looking for an excuse...

As for switching to ASF or spectrum its quite the investment to have a board. The upgrades described (board and radio) would retail in the $300-$500 range so you have to decide realistically if your mini Z experience warrants that level of upgrade just to get a bit more power and adjustment at the TX.

You've gota bit of decision making to do....

Anybody know what the ASF stands for?

I was assuming it stood for 'Auto-Synchronous Frequency', but I didn't find a reference to it in the manual for my MR-03S.

Also, I see that they made 'ASF' motors. Anyone know if there's anything special about them, to where they'd work differently in a non-ASF application, or is this another marketing thing? I can't seem to find the ASF chip in my ASF motor...

I will do your suggestion first for my rubber from the wheel,

asf motor is a little faster and really isn't safe to run on the boards that didn't have 3010 fets if I am not mistaken.

you won't find it in the sports series manual which is FHS. ASF covered here and FHS here. not a lot of information available from Kyosho on the specifics though. just a bunch of basic bullet points.

ASF = Auto Selected Frequency.

I was always under the impression that the ASF motors were named that because they include a PTC(auto resetting fuse) of a specific value suitable for the upgraded electronics in the 2.4 GHz boards.

My stock motor came with that part, but I bought an Atomic ASF motor that did not.

I found the data sheet on it. Never messed around with these parts before...

PTC Data Sheet

It has a 30V and 1.35A rating on it, however according to the data sheet it does not trip until 2.7A is exceeded. If a spike at 6.75A surges, it will trip for a maximum time of 7.3 seconds. Until it trips, it is imposing 40 to 80 milli-ohms of resistance to your motor current. After it trips, it is imposing 150 milli-ohms of resistance to your motor current for up to one hour.

I would think that the stock motor would be the most gentle on the elecs, but has this redundancy in protection. I'd pull it out and net the gain in reduced resistance off the bat, and maybe use the PTC on another motor that draws more current. If it trips, at least you know where you stand with motor draw.

If you upgraded your FET's, you would maybe want to upgrade this part as well to stay safe. Digikey sells a 1.6A, 1.85A, 2.5A, 3A, and 4A versions of the fuse.

They can be handy as they will trip from temperature as well if the motor is geared too aggressive - the motor has to be very hot to do it but I have seen it happen. I recommend anyone other then serious racers leave them in place as they provide a small level of cheap insurance for both motor and electronics.

I am really a beginner lol, I don't understand what you guys are talking about:eek:

by the way, I wanna put double sided tape on my MR03 Sports transimitter's wheel. How do I take the rubber off? Can I take the wheel off together too?

Looks like a screw in the middle of wheel but not sure what kind of screw driver I can match that

To disassemble the KT-19, you need a T8 Torx driver (looks like a star).

You only need to take the screw out of the steering wheel though...

Thanks! I will need to buy a Torx driver though
