How to Adjust handling characteristics.
Here is some great info to help all you Mini-Z'ers :)
Now, this is a write out for realy cars... but most will apply to the Mini-Z too. Adjustment / Increase Understeer / Increase Oversteer Front tire selection / Harder / Softer Rear tire selection / Softer / Harder Front tire section / Smaller / Larger Rear tire section / Larger / Smaller Front wheel camber / More positive / More negative Front springs / Stiffer / Softer Rear springs / Softer / Stiffer Front anti-sway bar / Thicker-stiffer / Thinner - softer Rear anti-sway bar / Thinner-softer / Thicker-stiffer Weight distribution / More forward / More rearward to fix an oversteering car you need to increase the understeer Pick and choose from the following menu, have fun! Curious, either this is wrong or some one else was wrong... wich is over steer? making too big of a radius, thus missing the curve hitting the outside wall, or turning too tight and hitting inside wall? Some how I think diff ppl think they are the other way around visaversa etc...

understeer = lack of steering... usually turns wide into curves (less responsive to steering, lesser steering throw from one end to the other)
oversteer = too much steering... usually turns too tight into curves, and thus more prone to spin outs. (more responsive to steering, more steering throw from one end to the other) generally it would be ideal to have more understeer than oversteer... but it's all up to the drivers preferences, some like more understeer, some like more oversteer. if you don't know what setting to choose, i suggest going around the track with max oversteer (set steering throw all the way to the right) then set the steering throw by moving it to the left after a couple of laps, repeat this until you're quite comfortable around the track at the setting with the least amount of steering throw... you'll know if you have too much understeer if you go too wide on curves.... you'll know if you got the right setting if you can turn your car just clipping the curve (or apex) hope this helps |
Thats what I thought, kinda the way the gran torismo manual says.... with out actualy saying it.
So I guess I have too much understeer to correct... hard to get it to turn. (using model car tires in rear only... ). |

So you will see that Hard tires will give LESS traction and Soft tires will give MORE traction. So that is why I said that Lower pressure would be Harder compound, and Higher pressure would be Softer compound. this is according to the list. It will not be correct in every case, because so much depends on the surface you are running on, but these are good general rules. Also when we talk about changing tire pressure, we are assuming we are very close to optimal pressure... with-in at most 5psi. changing only 1psi will make a differance. but we don't have to worry about that with Mini-Zs :) I hope this helps. :) Shrubba |
