I spoke too soon. Looks like the "Shield Bearings" actually ARE bearings to start with... So there is probably no reason to replace them. They look like they are pretty nice bearings to start with.

To figure out how to get to the driveshaft bearings, I actually got the book out. I now see where all the bearings are - and realize that there are 4 bearings - the "Shield Bearings" (6 x 10 x 3mm)...
