I'm no expert, but it seems like it runs directly on the batteries, and that the gate on the turbo FET's are opened with the current from the original motor terminal (by the original FET's)...

That happened to me with one of my monsters... I got a gear set for a touring car instead of the ones needed for the monster. Kind of weird "fault" in packaging...

I actually compared mine before and after upgrading to all aluminium... It "only" gains a total of about 90 grams. I expected a lot more. That's not even 50% of the original weight.
