I have the same issue. The tires get polished and useless. I don't have a truer so I'm just sand papering them to freshen then up. I've probably done at least 10k laps already and the grip is the same as the first day. I found I needed up front either narrow K20 or wide K30. Rears are all wide K20 but they do have room for improvement, I just don't have any wide K10.
We have run the smooth side for months. Very good grip and no tire shinyness. Box stock has Kyosho tires only. Rest of our classes we all run PN KS tires or Markas or a combo of both. The track was run on rough side for yearsand sat on all different surfices.
