First, welcome to the forum. Sounds like another that has stumbled into Bruckner.

Of the two cars you linked the second one is the best candidate. The gyro is a nice touch for shoveling snow(drifting) but is a terrible nuisance for racing. If it is speed you are looking for you will find that most any "Z" platform will be faster than you are ready for in the confined space of most RCP layouts. Since you have a background in fuel you will be a little better prepared.

My recommendation would be to hang out at the track and get to know the people and what they race and start making decisions from there.
