MyProto-Serpent S240

Hi everybody,

Some months ago i bought a Serpent s240 just because i found it at only 50€, when it arrived home i was surprised about how an ugly chassis it was. A couple of ideas come to my mind on how to modify it and build something new and much more usable.

My idea was to use ALL hardware from the Serpent but upgrading it with some Mini-Z pieces as rims, tyres and differentials. Maybe a smaller dimension could be also nice to use other bodies and to race with Z sizes chassis.

The front track is 76mm with MiniZ Front +0 rims. The rear track is 74mm with MiniZ Rear +0 rims and LM differential. In the picture is front 0 and rear wide rims. The wheelbase is 4" (that it's standard for 1/24 slot racing lexan body) and is very similar to 102mm. Ground clearance with 24mm tyres is 2mm at the rear, adjustable at the front.

In the CAD images there is also a cased Hobbyking XC-10A esc, a cased Gogolap receiver and a Savox micro servo, battery space is from 44.5*18.5 to 48.5*22.5.

I've order the first 2 prototypes to my local CF supplier. I think it could be a great way to use again those Serpent chassis.

I never really liked the serpent front end (thought it was kind of a cop out) do you have any plans on improving it or modifying it? I think that was the real issue with the serpent from my experience.

Thanks all for answering.

I'm keeping all the hardware from the Serpent but using it in a different way. As you can see I'm using elements of the front suspension moving them to the rear. The grommets are used as "suspension" supports of the t-plate.

The front suspension will be a very classic spring sliding knuckles. Pretty much as the old AWD/MR02. That's because i want to use as less new components as possible, a kind of easy conversion.

I'm a little bit too slow assembling everything as i have almost no time.

Here is an overall view with the standard Serpent diff-motor mount, I've made also the Kyosho's one. I'm not super happy with the CF cutting but overall is OK.

I was finally able to assemble all the components and test it.

Amazing result on the first test: lots of traction, perfect centering of steering.

The esc is an Atomic AMZ, receiver from OrangeRX Spektrum compatible, 9gr cheap plastic servo from Hobbyking, to be replaced with some digital and metal gears.

How is the steering sensitivity on turn in with the front steer set up? What is the second chassis in the last photo?

It's very reactive, but easy to drive.

The second chassis is my MP-V4, you can find it in this section "aftermarket chassis"

The front end is a typical sliding knuckle set-up. Similar to Pro-Z, MR-02, MiniF1, earlier version of my MP-V4...

A very easy, fast and tested set-up. I don't know why Serpent didn't use it originally in the car.
