Functional brake lights for mini-Z

I was having one of my sleepless nights the other night.
I just got an idea for making the brake lights work and not rob power from the motor. Basicly the idea is the same as I think Ken posted previously, using a relay to shut down the brakelights when motor was drawing current.

Well the idea is to use an optoisolator with LED:s both ways in the input, for an example fairchild 814 to detect signal in the motor wires. I'm working on a complete schematic.

feel free to exploit the idea

Were you not in that AOL IM chat when I said to take the "LED-like" Sensors from a old mouse, and mount them so they blink based on the spur gear teet cutting hte beam... would have to then build a circut to detect direction and speed (hack it from the mouse) hehe.

Nnnnnnope, weren't in AOL, and probably never will
I hang out in irc, ircnet servers.
Doing the opto-fork thing and calculating de-acceleration from that data would require a hefty bit of processing power and ICs. If you want to go that way, set up an accelerometer and program some microcontroller into a dataloggger

I just finished testing the circuit on a prototyping board.. it works, I have to test it with a real mini-z.

Mine do cut off when I punch the throttle. The are RCRM's (R/C Racing Model)

Hardtrukr:
Do you mean that they "wink" off and back on again? That is not what I'm after.
I'm trying to construct a circuit that swtches tail lights from a higher brightness to a lower when power is applied to the motor and lights them brighter when you stop appying the power, meaning you're slowing down.

I think I got the circuit down, will post as soon as I find a schematic drawing cad

keep those idea flowing it's free!

Schematic

No component values, but this should give you the idea.

Think GPM has a light-kit with brakelights... Just wanna tell you before you spend several hours constructing your brake-lights

Yes and there is a product called "RC-light" which has "stoplights"

But I did it already
I just have to find the time to test it out on the real thing.
Have to find the correct resistor values, I'm too lazy to calculate them

I'm more comfortable around electronics than paintbrushes these days so my van is not progressing but the light project is.

I found a nice 0.1Farad capacitor for keeping the lights from winking, don't know can output enought current to feed several LEDs but it's pretty small too.

And besides as someone said "It's a HOBBY!"
