That's a sweet track. Is that in your basement? We don't really have basements in Phoenix. I've raced on the grey tiles befor, it's a bit slipperier then the RCP surface.

thanks, It's the loft in my barn. I put a fireplace up there to keep me warm during the blizzards we get here. I have relatives in Scottsdale, they have no basement either, I guess it's because of the sandy soil. I've never been on a RCP track, but these tiles seem to work fine.

that's a nice DIY track, the foam mats and PVC tiles are a great way to make your own track. it's not quite like the grip you get with RCP, but it is sure better than not having a track. I also started out with the same type of track.

Can I suggest that you get those PVC foam insulation foam pieced to put over the PVC pipe, it can prevent you from cracking the bodies during a collision. the foam simply slips over the pipe and you could just wire tie it on so it can't pop off.

Great Job, I wish I had a loft like that to have my track setup all the time.

thanks. I know what your talking about, I covered my pipes with the stuff to stop all the condensation from dripping. So far no cracks but, that wouldn't hurt.
Close to home is the only place for a track (you always need to be close to the fridge, lol). I have an acre of pond in my backyard for my boats and a 72'x48' offroad track for 1/18th and 1/10th scale electrics (need a load of dirt to finish it in the spring).

New layout

Needed a change and wanted to be able to move my DIY track so a redo was in order. ASC +screwed down PVC pipe = lots of CA, lol. The Nascar bodies took a heck of a beating but, everything since has been a disaster looking for a place to happen.
I picked up some backer rod from the local home building supply to replace the PVC and a bag of rubber bands and some hockey tape to replace the screws. I taped the backer rod to the edge pieces of my cheapo tiles and used the rubber bands for the inner dividers. I can set it up by myself in about 30mins. It's really easy to change the layout and very forgiving on the bodies. The edges and divider pack into a gym bag and I make two stacks of tiles held together with some velcro straps.

Both of the tracks look great! I think I like the first layout better, but the second version of the track looks like it'd be much easier on the cars.

I like them both but I think the spiraling motion of the second would make me dizzy really quickly.
Nice amount of track space you have there.I would love to have an area I could leave set up.
I only have a small space for my track that I have to put away at the end of the evening.

My DIY track is going to be used this winter by my local club (Dufferin RC). I needed to make it portable and quick to set up. I've eliminated the round foam backer rod by cutting a few tiles into strips and doubling them up. It's been glued together to get rid of all the rubber bands which were time consuming. It's covered in hockey stick tape (cloth tape) to stop foam chunks. The center rails are made from the edges which are glued and covered.
It packs up into 3 bundles.

It makes a 16'x12' track with 3' lanes and takes me 16 minutes to set up by myself.

I won't have to freeze my butt off this winter,

My DIY track is a hobby on it's own. Changed it to get a longer straight and now it's 22'x14'. Loads of fun every Monday night.

Cheers

Nice outfit.
Where'd you get those tiles? They look something like what I have and I need more, but can't find any. Mine are like 20-1/4" square, intended for use under heavy exercise equipment. I got mine from Target.
