I've been thinking of manufacturing a container of special edition tracks. The tracks would be the same specs as current tracks but with a special tile and rail color package. I was thinking of light or dark grey tiles, black straight rails and orange turn rails.
Looking for some input on this idea. Of course, if you ordered the special edition tracks and combined them with current tracks, the over all layout may look a little odd.

I like the idea, but you've already identified the biggest downside. I think existing track owners like me would be unlikely to buy, and new track owners with an eye to expand later or dreams of hosting a regional race would likely opt for the black/grey/red standard, which leaves fewer potential buyers of the special edition track.
John. Rather than just add new colors for the "Special Edition" why not come out with a track pack that includes all of the special pieces. The NASCAR corners, all the different 45* pieces, inside radius kit and maybe a couple of new pieces like we have caught glimpses of in the mini-96 kits. Leave the basic track color alone but change up the rail color to signify the special addition kit. It would be very nice but likely cost prohibitive to make the rails multi color by alternating say red and white like we see on real race courses.
I agree with both of these guys. I would probably consider adding some special addition rails to my current track. I think I could make those look good with the current track. I just dont think gray tiles is the way to go.....Well I think it is the way to go....just not for a temporary or "special addition" thing.
I am still wanting to get some curbing and worm rails!
special edition rails! i like that idea..... with a SPECIAL coating on it like the shell on MMA gloves.....soft foam insidi an firm and slippery outside!
We used to race on a gray carpet and the cars were WAY easier to see. That is the only reason I would say gray should be the right color.
I think black is fine for RCP, and if a gray version came out, I would not likely switch everything over.
The hard coated rails is a good idea! I have been making my own rail liners for wide radius corners, but a slicker finish on the current rails would be awesome!

I would love to see rails that hang up the cars less, and dont break apart over time as cars hit the apex.
As far as track color, I would like to see a lighter material, but as people have said, it would look funny, so it may be better to leave that as it is. I think the attention should go to the rail color, even material as Grant pointed out. Soft to absorb a hit, but hard/slippery outside so the cars dont hang up on the straight or fast section if they brush the rail slightly and get hit at full speed by the car behind them.

I agree with the above - lighter tiles w/b nice but for SE I think a rail pack w/b the way to go. The theme? Mini-ZRacer.com 10th Anniversary of course!!
Providing a vinyl coated foam would offer a smoother surface so the cars glance off, That would be something I'd like to have. It may even offer longer durability.
