Talking 70t motor in a s

Can someone tell me why the 70t motor will work in an 03s but not have reverse?

Sounds like a trim issue.

trim? Keenon says its not compatible with the s but i thought it would be because of the motor mount which i bought too so i thought it would work (which it does rather well) except for no brake or reverse, if you hit it twice fast enough it will run forward with the trigger pushed all the way forward?

The most likely reason for the non compatibility disclaimer would be to avoid any responsibility for potential damage to your electronics if you do something stupid and try to blame them. What you are experiencing sounds like a transmitter reset could resolve.

Like the others said it could be a transmitter setting issue but if you can't get it fixed that way then you could have also burnt out the FET's for reverse (they are separate for forward). This would still allow you to have forward power but no stopping or reverse power. My suggestion would be to switch back to the stock motor to check if it still has reverse if it does you have a transmitter issue. If it doesn't have reverse you probably need new reverse FET's.

so this is what i found. if i replace these with 8858 i'm guessing that would be the best cure?
Or should i get the 1's from pn?

I would call that a fried fet. Some of the older PN motors had a fairly substantial eyelet on the motor leads. If either came in contact with a fet leg it might have been the issue. Hence the PN disclaimer. And 8858's all the way.

Since I have never been into a sports series board what is that substance that looks like "duck butter" all over the corner of the board?

If your soldering skills and equiptment are up to it I would say go for it. Bear in mind though if you decide to go above a 70T motor you will have your hands full.

Worst that can happen is you ruin the board. If that happens just spend the extra money for a ASF 410 board and your problems are over since any of the conventional 2.4 radios will work.

Contrary to popular belief, there really isn't a 'reverse' FET and a 'forward' FET. They are both used in forward AND reverse, however a FET can fail leaving either forward or reverse STILL working.
