First Annual Columbus 120
On June 1st the green flag dropped for the first annual "Columbus 120". One hundred-twenty minutes....2 non-stop hours of Mini-Z mayhem. Seven teams of 2 to 3 racers contested this event and, when the smoke cleared, Team R & R proved to be the masters of the Mini-Z enduro.
The motor rules were open which made for many different strategies. Run a faster modified and make more "pit-stops" for battery changes or use a stock motor and make less stops. The results show that the modified motor was the best choice. Some teams made only 3 battery changes the entire race! The Mini-Zs proved to be virtual TANKS with no broken cars. Everyone finished
Team R & R, consisting of Dustin (the most enthusiastic) and his brother Luke (the youngest), bested Captain Eddy's Flying Circus by 70 laps. Captain Eddy's was one of the 3 person teams which made pit-stops a little less hectic. Ed (aka Pete), Edd (aka Ed), and Eddy (aka David) were an early leader but faded somewhat at the finish.
Team Fast (John and Darrin) fell just 9 laps short of second. In a race such as this that is a photo finish In fact, the top three teams traded the lead several times in the early going and fought hard all 120 minutes.
Team Toman (Jason and Daren) fell behind early only to make a hard charge at the end and claim 4th place. Who knows what could have happened with a little more time on the clock.
Team Alien OG (Old Guys) had a rough night. Team member Jeff drove an awesome first leg and kept the team in contention. When his partner took over ever thing just went down hill. This guy is probably THE worst Mini-Z driver ever. It was hard not to laugh at his performance. No one is as BAD.............OK.............I admit it. It was yours truly. I s*&k.
The only team with more hard times was Team FART. Wes, Justin, and "The Old Man" just couldn't catch a break. Wes (just returning to R/C), Justin (just starting in R/C), and "The Old Man" (just coming out of a decade of R/C retirement) still manged to finish.
We used the new CORE system and it worked PERFECTLY. Below is a link to the data that was generated by the system for this event. Anyone looking for a timing/scoring system need look no farther. Watch for it.
I think our next enduro may be an oval race using the CP car conversions. If you haven't seen one yet the new 02 conversion kit is VERY nice. Check out the new aluminum wheels too. COOL!!!
Everyone left the raceway wanting more enduros. I think we can manage that

Can't edit my ooops!
I guess I was blinded by my own misery when I wrote the previous post. I completely forgot about Team Scuderia Diablo. The fifth place team. Only 45 laps out of fourth and light years ahead of sixth (me). Chris Sasso and Mike Scot made up Team S.D. Chris is an infrequent but VERY good racer. He is also a complete BLAST to be around. If you can't have fun with Chris around you can't have fun. For Mike Scot I believe this was his first Mini-Z race. At the most his second. He drove the wheels off their car!!
Sorry guys. I didn't mean to forget you.

I want to thank Mike for a great race. This event was well run making lots of fun My hat off to all that ran. They had me on the edge of my seat while driving or playing pit crew. The one fun thing about an enduro is that you can have something go wrong at any time keeping you wondering how well your car is prepped. Man do I wonder how those gas guys run for an hour. On top of thanking the great compitition coming out, I want to thank my the people and componies that support me, Ripped Racing, Surge Worldwide, Integie, and my family. Thanks to all these guys for their support. They make it the fun that is what this sport is all about.

Sorry Arch2b. The line chart can't (yet) be printed or copied. You can only do a screen capture and create a bitmap showing the chart. Besides, plotting a 120 minute race into that chart box makes it look like a blob .
I agree that the line charts make for very interesting reading!!

We are currently on an "every other Wednesday" schedule. That would make the July races on the 13th and the 27th. BUT, July is when I try to take a few days vacation. Usually scheduled at the last minute. So the July dates may be changed. I can put you on my email list if you like so you will be aware of any changes.

On May 21st we ran a 2 hour endurance race in Houston. The results were very similiar to yours. 6 teams, all teams finished with no car breakage with the exception of a wheel coming off one car costing that team only 2 laps.
The rules were slightly different. Teams had to use a stock motor. We still had different stategies. Some teams only pit 4 times, others pit as much as 7.
We used the KO scoring system with good results.
Discussion is taking place for a Fall race with possibly different motors and a longer race.
