ByeBye??????
ByeBye I have seen the 12h enduro race like 10 times now, and I was just wondering what your exact setup was? It looks like your car was running great. I have an enduro coming up and just wanted to get some setup tips from a pro

No problemo! I do recommend you re-attach the motor leads on all atomic motors. That's what we found out in the first hour of the race.
You should also get some decent batteries and cycle them. Roger just got a win at his last enduro and some comments were made about the duration of one set(25min.+ I think).

I will tomorrow. I spent the evening cleaning the track and cleaning the cars. I ran a few hot laps. It's been a while but I got back in the groove.
I ran the VDS enduro car. I'll take some pics tomorrow after work and post them up. All the parts were bought specifically for the enduro and I can explaing the purpose.
YES I love my Helios!

Kris: Your set-up is almost the exact set-up that I used. The only different thing I did was the body ( McClaren ), 3 x 3 hybrid stack FeT set-up, and kyosho 20's front/rear.
Yes, the batteries that I used were the Lemar 1000 mah batteries. At the time, these were the only batteries available to me at Fry's Electronics. I cycled the batteries using a PN battery discharger and charged them at 1.3 amps with my ice chargers. I cycled each pack 5 times with 15 minutes cool-down intervals. I was surprised that I made the full 25+ minutes per pack. I charged all the pack the day of the race and peaked them before each run. It was funny hearing the other racers complain about me still running while they were on the second set of batteries; while I was on my first. Each time I came into the pits, I had a set ready for peaking and change over. It was a one man team and everything worked pretty good.
As for enduro races, its not the fastest ones that win the race, but the most consistant. I didn't pull the fastest lap times like Fraz ( Frazier ), but I did pull the most consistant times and the most laps ( 388 laps for the 100 minute race ). The key thing to enduro races is patience. Even when you come in to the pits while changing batteries. Take your time and everything will flow. Also, glue or tape down your tires. I taped my tires using PN racing tape and it held the whole race. I had another set of tires ready for a change out, but because I was consistant and smooth, my tire wear was minimal. I didn't drive the car really hard where I would wear down the tires at a faster pace. Being smooth and conservative will help with your tire wear last alot longer than others.
When is your enduro race ?

Only a slight error, we did run the -1 Narrow Atomic TS wheels on the front for the 2007 CRC Endurance (Hey I should know, we own the car and it's still fighting on to this day )
I'd love to hear/see some more about the 2008 chassis too Kris my lad - has the setup changed since you ran it here in the UK?
Regarding taping the tires, with the larger Atomic T.S wheels and the Atomic AWD Groove rubber, I think I'm right in saying no glue or tape was needed as the Atomic tires are a tighter fit over those rims? But on regular rims/tires it's a good idea of course.
I remember Avant saying that the winning team at the CRC were getting some near 40 min runtimes, I think on Vapex 1100's with the correct conditioning. That's what will get you the win along with a good car and driver.

You're right Jonny we were running -1's.
The setup hasn't changed since I ran it last time I was there. I've ran it here at home. The VDSII is quick but the MCL really takes the cake.
Here are those pics:

Endurance Setup
Thanks Kris, so you say you prefer the McLaren on that chassis then? For what reason? I must admit, I'm not a huge fan of running the VDS body and long since retired my VDS 1 but I'm sure I'd get used to it. (Having a little time with it beforehand will no doubt help this time too).
I'll have to put some discussion re: 2008 back on Tiny RC soon.

The Mclaren is a great body. The low profile and MM layout is very smooth and flat.
The VDSII I have is quick but I just hate the fact that you can just rub the rail and move on. That's my only gripe.

Kris: Round of the edges with a dremal tool and test it. Take off just enough until it doesn't dig in into the RCP deep enough to stop the car. I've done this to every VDS body I tried and I can still rub off the RCP wall without coming to a abrupt stop when the edge comes into contact.
Rounded edges:
