Does anybody know a way to remove the side body clips without damaging the clips or the body? I need to adjust a body that has the clips glued by the factory. The body is sitting too low.
I tried with a screw driver and I heard the plastic cracking. Looking for a non destructive way to remove them so I can reposition them.
Thanks.
Well if there is any plastic cracking, its the small guides on the clip. Even if one of them cracks the clip is still useable. I have done ceveral bodys. the all have minor damage at the clips, but none were unusable.
I've always used a very sharp knife to cut the glue near the edges of the body mounts and then worked the knife in anywhere else possible. From that point a small screwdriver is used to gently pry the mount free, working it off evenly side to side until it finally snaps or falls off.
Drill bit for dremmel, 2 flat head screwdrivers, xacto knife.
I'ved used these with good success... I've relocated about 5pairs of side body mounts with them... First score the joining pieces with the xacto knife, then try using dremmel, then small screwdrivers. Usually I would hear plastic cracking... But that's what glue is for...
I never thought of trying nail polish... Or acetone... Maybe next time...
I got them off by scoring the join and prying with a flat blade screw driver. I flipped the clips and that gave it an extra 1/8" of clearance I needed.
good to hear... kinda visually irritating seeing the spacing on some wheel to fender clearances... i don't know if it was a production problem or quality problem... here's one i did for my sauber mercedes c9 click here... i thought i was the only one until i saw some pics of 2 other bodies...
the odd thing is... out of the 5 bodies that i relocated the side body clips... 4 of them were lm bodies... two 962 bodies, one mazda 787, and one sauber mercedes c9... wonder why?....
and the other body was a toyota vitz... which i got second hand... side body clips were mounted too high in the body... giving it a really slammed down lowered look (tooo much for my liking) and so i had to re attach it lower a bit to have that raised/lifted (but not much) body look...
the result of which, you can see here...
toyota vitz 555 wrc...
