They have this at my local hobby shop. The manager said it's identical to the Eagle Racing version. He has the Eagle Racing version, and said it's too heavy - the stock plasticc one is faster, so that's what everyone is using.

I never tried the Aluminum mounts, because supposedly you can't use the Kyosho disk damper system that comes with the SP2.

Yes, all R246 CNC parts made by 3 Racing.

Dead ringer for the 3r part. R246 definitely outsources the work lol.

Not sure all r246's cnc parts are made by 3R. The knuckles are
probably made by kyosho (same quality as the 02 offerings) as
the R246 ones are perfect; the 3rs offerings are... different. The
diff plates are polished K plates. I'd say the TE37s and CE28Ns
etc are not made by 3R either (probably made by square). Some
of the other F1 parts are just recolored K offerings.

The price doesn't differ that much from 3r parts, it's the mark up
in all imported K related items that does it. Items like the tierod
packs and spring holders might be good investments (if found at
a good price) as they are all one color (no multicolor nonsense lol)
and probably have extra qc checks as opposed to regular 3r parts.

Were you able to install the Kyosho DDS as per the manual, or did you have to mount it a different way? I was under the impression that it would only fit if it was mounted a different way...

Not sure who makes the R246 stuff, but the Knuckles are definitely different that the Kyosho. I have both, and the R246 are better than the Kyosho. The R246 have longer axles, which poke through the wheel bearing a little bit before the threaded portion starts. This allows you to tighten the wheel nut until it bottoms out, and that very small space creats enough play that allows the wheel to free spin easily.

With the Kyosho Knuckles, the wheel nut will bottom out on the bearing, and you have to back off a bit to allow the wheel to free spin easily. Not such a big deal, but in our endurance races that require a tire change, the R246 Knuckles are a time saver because I tighten the wheel nut until it bottoms out, and I don't have to worry about backing off to ge the right tension, etc.

?

I was under the impression the r246 knuckles were
just what kyosho would have offered themselves,
just rebadged under the r246 name.

I wasn't aware that Kyosho offered another bunch
of aluminum cnc sets apart from the r246 offerings...

I've had no problems at all in the past with the K 02
alum cnc knuckles (perfect fit, no axles pulling out, no
need for extra work on delrin, easy fitament, will play
well with other manufacturer bearings, etc) so
they've left a very very good impression as a brand.
The K cnc parts just work well out of the box and
are most importantly sturdy and will last a long time.

The r246 03 set I have are just as easy to use and of similar
very high quality, hence my suspicion K made it themselves.

If you could give me the part number for the cnc
aluminum 03 K knuckles (not the r246s) your talking
about I'd like to try them out myself.

FYI, all R246 is re-badged 3Racing stuff, as well as Eagle Racing, additionally most Kyosho stuff is machined by the same company that makes (and owns) 3Racing stuff as well...

yes you can install it as per instructions with no problems. i did decide to put the plate on the bottom of the metal bracket to give me more clearance to install a top shock also.

Christian,

R246 stuff may be manufactured by the same company that makes 3Racing and Eagle Racing, but the R246 F1 knuckles are not rebadged Eagle Racing parts. The brake disks are smaller, darker color, and attached to the knuckle differently than the R246 part. The actual machined aluminum does look similar though.

pfcparts,

As for the Kyosho knuckles, I was talking about the F1 specific part (part # MFW10), not the MR-03 version. The Kyosho F1 version is sleeker with rounded edges compared to the R246 part, but again, the threaded portion of the axle on the R246 version stopping right before the bearing is a big bonus for me, as I can bottom the nut out and have the perfect amount of play.

If that is true that sucks...

If 3R can make parts of that quality, all of their
parts should be of the same standard not just
the ones they make for Kyosho… I’ve had bad
experiences with a bunch of 3R parts and mostly
no problems (until recently with the new 03 alum
arms) with Kyosho brand parts. I would have never
believed the same company that made the K stuff
could put out their own similar items and make pure
crap. Same with the new r246 wheels… 3R offers
nothing on that level...

You'd think the stuff you offer with your name on it
would be the best lol...

I would have bet my collection that eagle racing was
rebranded atomic…

R246 F1 knuckles I think are basically what K offered
before with a brake pad (which people will probably
take off anyways lol). At the least they are offering
hard to find parts again. Hopefully more ascs and
other rare items will follow.

Also, they shouldn’t be listing the parts as made in Japan
if they are made elsewhere lol.

Back to the topic on hand, anyone else using the mentioned
mount or the 3R equivalent or is the stock pod the best?

Not to beat a dead horse, but I assure, the difference is more than the inclusion of a brake disk. I own both. The Kyosho version is sleeker, more rounded, and the spring retainer is different.
