New to Mini-Zs

Me and several of my colleagues have all gotten Mini-Zs.

The questions I have is this...

1] If i was to buy upgrades for the mini-z, should I stick with kyosho products? or would it be ok to use the other aftermarket parts?

2] I see some talk about turbos and apex units and such, what is that all about? Are those just names for new motors such as X-speed?

3] How much faster would the X-Speed make my Mini-Z?

Thanks guys!

turbo kits increase speed and torque about 20% with NiMH batteries..most of them also have shot and overloading protection.. most people have alot of unoffical parts on their cars because sometimes they're better and u'll have alot more choices...

hope that helps alittle

ans...
1. kyosho supplies good quality products, unfortunately they cost more than other aftermarket parts. over here there are only gpm parts that sells aftermarket parts for the mini-z. there are only certain parts that will go well with the original parts... if you get a gpm motor for example, you will have to get a gpm motor mount, and depending on the motor mount, the kyosho rear shock may or may not fit. general rule is to ask around first, or search the forums...

2. turbo's are an aftermarket part which you install (in 5 min. or less) which make your mini-z go faster. there are a lot of manufacturers... apex, gpm, eagle, tlp and some others that i can't remember, kyosho has one, but it's rumored to be a repackaged apex with a higher price (of course)

3. the x-speed motor is a good reliable choice for a motor (if you can get one from nomotorlimit the better - i hear they really run quick even without the turbo) and it is faster than the stock motor. i suggest you try out the stock motor and when you get accustomed to driving it around, get the x-speed, get accustomed, then get the turbo... there are a lot of other things you can get to make your z perform well... search the forums and you might find the answers

hope this helps

Thanks for the breakdown guys, exactly what is the turbo? Is it just some sort of booster for the motor from the battery? Or is it an actual part (like turbine and intercooler) :P

Where can I get this turbo? Brand and price? Thanks

sportykev, we have the Turbos in the Shop:

Looks like most of your questions have been answered very thoroughly, but to touch on the Kyosho issue - don't waste your money - take a look at the Shop and you'll find parts identical or superior to Kyosho at far better prices. Thanks!
