LaCrosse Charger Back on Sale

This is the charger that SoyVerde has been talking about. It's on sale at Amazon for $35 with free shipping. I think I am going to pick one up. I haven't seen a better price.

I read the revew. Looks good. I understand you can pick different charge rates, but do you know what the charge times would be based on the rate you pick? How fast is fast? How slow is slow?

Thanks

I think if you charge a battery at its capacity it takes an hour. A 1000Ah battery would take an hour to charge if you charge it at 1000mA...if it's fully discharged.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong on this one.

I saw the wright up on the intellect cells and wondered what to charge them with. I was considering a maha MH-c801d eight cell 1-hr charger. But this one looks better. And I can get two for less then it would cost for one Maha charger.

I wonder if the cells that come with the charger are any good.

The formula to figure out charge time is (assuming a completely dead battery):

Capacity of the battery / Charge Rate

Example:

Battery = 900maH
Charge Rate = 1.2a or 1200ma

Est. Time = 900maH / 1200ma = 0.75 hours or 45 minutes

Most battery manufacturers say you should charge NiMh at 1C or 1 x battery (C)apacity. This is too slow for most people. I charge between 1.2 to 1.8C The rate you charge at depends on if you have a good peak detecting charger.

LaCrosse: I just bought one also but not for the Amazon price

@RHarris Most people say the LaCrosse batteries are not that good.

I cant decide what would be better to get this charger or to get a battery tray for my Dynamite Vision Peak Ultra. So what should I get?

One plus for the tray is that it's probably cheaper. A pro for the 900 is that it can charge individually and it can discharge batteries. I say go for the 900.

huston, we have a problem 1 of the 4 cell bays indicates there is a cell inplace even though it's empty. i ahve a picture but have not uploaded it yet.

this is causing any attempt to charge any battery in any bay(s) to result in the overheat indicator. i've already emailed lacrosse, support@lacrossetechnology.com , and i'm waiting on a reply..... i was just about to buy another one too

I am glad that you guys are reprting your problems. I have been running mine nonstop for almost a week and it's great. I was thinking of getting rid of my other chargers and getting a second one but I think I'll hold off until I hear how you guys make out.

I thought this was going to be the one too

yeah, i sold off some of my others.... i still hope to get a 2nd bc 900 since i now have 6 sets of intellects to charge each gtg.

i completly understand the poetntial to get a faulty unit, they can't all be perfect. i have had to have some rayovak stuff replaced before and if lacrosse is anything like rayovak i will have no problem buying another provided i get a reasonable resolution to the current issue.

as for now, i'm down to the old 1hr rayovak and 1 ic3 charger so i had better get them all charger before the 22nd

who knows, it could just be an amazon batch with some bad units or shaken up too much during shipping? they mention that specifically in the manual, being shaken that is. i just wish there was a telephone number as it's usually much quicker dealing with support issues over the phone.

Sorry Arch

As I posted in the April 22 thread, one of the pins fell off of my AC adapter. Since yours is fresh from Amazon, you might want to go through them if LaCrosse is a pain to deal with (as I've said before, Amazon is excellent when it comes to returns/exchanges). There is a phone support number for LaCrosse (507-895-7095), but I've gone with email as a first attempt at getting this resolved (I'll phone if I don't get an answer in the next day or two). I don't think I'll be buying a second at this point...though I might buy another charger soon (I quickly ran all 9 of my sets down while racing with a friend on the mini-96 this weekend).

hmm... i emailed lacross 2 days ago. i guess i should email amazon as well and see who comes up first. i already tossed all the packaging etc. if that makes a differnece? i still like the charger and it's functions. if i can get a new one i will certainly be buying another provided i can still find one on sale. it's that or jsut get 1 of the more expensive chargers and charging tray? just trying to avoid that expense but with all my other scales etc, it might just be the way to go

Arch, did LaCrosse ever get back to you? They have an AC adapter on the way for me, so I hope they have you covered as well by now...
