Question

dude, good stuff. those are some of the best ive seen in a while. i have yet to paint a mini z body. painted lots of 1/10 touring. tiny checker board is my thing. that's probably why i havent painted one yet. looks like the squares are going to get a lot tinier. HA!

tell us dummies some tips. what paint? what clear? how many coats? oh, and where can i get tiny sponser stickers that arnt an arm and a leg(preferably water slide). no models are the right size. thnx

great work mike l...

kingpest13...
here are some custom body threads that you can click on... some tips in there too...
lengthy read but ok once you see the final work... for checkered boards, you can either paint them if you're someone named davey g, or print them on decal waterslide paper...
good luck and enjoy...

Thanks alot, I paint mostly 1/10 and 1/8th scale as well, our local track closed and we are all doing Mini-z lately. I have a vinyl cutter which I use for masks, you can use vinyl without a machine, just trace your designs on it and cut it by hand, then apply to the body for masking. Some painters layout tape on a piece of lexan to draw on it too.

The clear is duplicolor's automotive clear, it takes around 12 coats and after the first few they need to be kinda heavy. The clear held up to racing very well.

I would love to print some waterslide decals, but I have not looked into what it would take to get the proper printer.

thanx so much, im glad to see these are american made. the japanese will be jealous. someone mentioned pattos place for decals, i looked into it. takes awhile to sift through it but, theres some good stuff. you can get vinyl and water slide of the same stuff.
i painted a dbr9 light blue wit red and white cheker board stripes. it is my pride and joy. always wanted to see it as a mini z. i went to graphic design school so im actual proficient at painting but i dont think its possable to cut a mask that delicate.
i think pattos makes custom water slides. its all in aus dollars which are 2/3rds of a dollar. makes a 1/24 set 5.00. he says he can print them 1/28. you probably know all this.
off subject but i waned to say; play grid on ps3 its addictive.

*ok are you trying to melt my brain with that link? good info definitely. but , to much for this first one. do you use lacquer for mini z plastic or ps paint?

That's an impressive collection of custom bodies, all of those paintjobs look very well done. That 350 Z looks great in the blue and red. Does the Faskolor paint come pre-mixed for airbrush use? I have a friend who used to use the Faskolor paint on his 1/10th scale lexan bodies with excellent results, but I don't know how durable the finish is on plastic bodies without a clearcoat applied...

Yes its ready to spray out of the bottle, depending on your brush some thinning is required for certain colors and details. Faskolor does not bond well without a clear coat, createx makes a "transparent gloss coat" if you want a waterbased clear, I prefer duplicolor automotive clear in a big spray can, this is what I am currently using.
