Time Trial Car Setups
Please use this thread to post your setups that you are running for the How Fast Are You Time Trials.
My hope is to let everyone know what works and doesn't work. This will help everyone hopefully improve their times.
Thanks
Brian

Time 5:37.21
Time Trial Track 1
Stock MR-02 MM Kyosho Mini-Z with the following additions.
Body: McLaren F1 LM, Silver
Motor: Stock Kyosho Mini-z (blowd' up during run)
Pinion: Xtra Speed Delrin 6 tooth
Diff: Kyosho Stock
Rear Shock: GPM Alloy- Yellow Spring (tightened down on screw)
Front Springs: Kyosho- Red (Soft)
T-Plate: Kyosho Soft CF
Bearings: Yeah Racing Metal Seal
Front Tires: TopCad 15deg Radial (New)
Rear Tires: TopCad 15deg Radial (New)
Wheels: TopCad Alloy w/ Disk Brakes (good looking cars go faster. Fact)
Power: Lenmar 850 Ni-MH rechargables
Air Temp: Around 55deg.
Notes: New tires made the difference. Switching the stock front springs (med-soft) with softs also helped. I tried a Medium CF Plate but my times dropped a tad, and I could see the rear end hopping.
My times would be, I estimate, 6-10sec faster if I could stay out of the wall better.

DW, I would suggest trying a 7 or 8 tooth pinion, It will gain you some speed. Possibly lowering you times, give it a shot next time you are set up. I run a stiffer spring up front for a little more bite in the turning you might give that a try too. I agree about staying off the walls, I fall victim to them also.
Everyone, feel free to make suggestions, and if you find out something helped your times, you might want to mention that too.

Well it's not much but here it is :
Ferrari F50
Severely worn 8 degree tires all the way around !
Topcad alloy wheels (Enzo style)
Bearings
GPM ball diff (very dirty !)
8 tooth stock gear
Custom polycarbonate "H" plate (very flexible and extremely sloppy)
Chunk 'O' Foam rear suspension (highly technical, very efficient )
All else is STOCK !
Oh yeah, run was on a set of Rayovacs 700 mah charged on a Lacrosse charger.
oops... forgot alloy wheels nuts !

Thanks Brian. I started out running a 7T pinion (which I tend to prefer on our average 4xRCP tracks), but it felt like I was never getting to top speed. That was in the first few runs though, so I had less practice at that point.
Turn-in feels good, but can be pushy from the middle-off. I haven’t tried a stiffer front suspension since I first got the springs a long time ago (pre-RCP, so asphalt). I ended up going with the stocks until switching to the softs last week.
I keep my car tuned slightly tight. After running on these treaded TopCads I noticed my front tires wore at nearly double the rate of the rears. My thinking was I must have more push than I realized so I softened up the front. When I put in the Med CF Plate to stiffen the rear my times degraded slightly, so I went back to Soft CF.
I should have videoed the run to analyze it. Despite being balanced to the tight side, the car felt like it was scrubbing too much speed in the corners. It’s very stable though. No undue skidding or washing out. In stock trim it spun out at the slightest provocation.
The new stock motor arrived today from MZR (just a few days turnaround, thanks MZR). I’ll be installing that into the new GPM alloy motor pod. I got the one with the sliding mounts so I can better mesh the gears. The stock spacer plates weren’t very good for the 7T and tore the pinion apart in one day.

My MR0-1 Focus set up for the time trials.
Body: 02 Focus WRC
Motor: Stock out of the box
Pinion: stock 6 tooth
Diff: GPM Purple ball diff
Front springs: box stock
H-plate: Kyosho CF (Soft for HFAY #1 and Med. for HFAY #2)

Front tyres: 15* Topcads
Rear Tyres: 15* topcads
Wheels: Topcad alloy (HFAY #1 wides all around, HFAY #2 wide rears and srock fronts)
Power: ATOMIC AAA 800mah
Basically the car is as stock as it came out of the box except for the ball diff and h-plate and alloy wheels.

Spoon's Setup for Open
My Time Trial Car Setup
Time 5:05.87
Time Trial Track 1 - Open Class
Stock MR-02 MM Kyosho Mini-z with the following additions.
Body: MR-02 Lambo Murceilago (Nice and wide)
Motor: Kyosho X-Speed Motor (water dip break in)
9 tooth Pinion
Kyosho Ball Diff
Kyosho Oil Shock
Duratrax Bearings
Yellow (Stiff) Front Springs
Kyosho 30 deg narrow front tires
GPM 10 deg Wide rears
Kyosho soft carbon H-plate
Probably GP 800 Batteries
I really like the Lambo body. It's wide and heavy. I think that helps me track pretty well and not slide out.

With recent discussion on time trials, thought it might be good to tag this one bringing it forward.
