This is exciting! It’s more work for the club judges to manage and such but hopefully should pull in more people.

I agree 100%, now the series is open to all chassis most notably the ones designed for LiPo only & modular electronics...simply put this pushed the entire HFAY program forward at the right time.

I"ll need a good strategy session with the club members to decide how to sequence all the classes in 2 dates each month. Might do classes on different days. Running two classes in both direction in one day is unrealistic unless the numbers are low and or able to mix classes. I would imagine everyone would have some only interested in one class or the other vs. both. I'm going to try both classes myself if i can find an appropriate motor for open class.

when will rules for open class be posted?

At this point I think there should be a feeling as the Beta season of open class what makes the most sense would be “Race What You Brung” with any power package faster than 70/3500 & any and all scale specific chassis platforms & body types/material with no weight limits (min-weight/max-power are self regulated by diminished point of returns anyway). Leave it up to clubs how to mix up or separate the minimum 3 required cars on the track( if they happen to be different types) for each open class race they’re having as they see fit. It will be really fun to find out how all available platforms will rank against each other on the chart which there are so many now; 98 GT plastic / 98GT Lexan / 98-102 Pan Lexan / 98GT/pan w/modular electronics (lexanORplastic) / Upcoming GL formula 1 / K- Formula 1 / existing & upcoming MC3 formula 1 / Laijf F1 / Kyosho, Atomic & GL AWD’s not to mention LM 102 WB’s of all variations, JRP & Mpower 3d’s etc etc. & from round to round drivers should be able to change cars…basically let drivers choose to run whichever open car they “want to run” in each round of open class.

I was looking for clarification primarily that Open Class has to be anything less than 70T and greater than 3500kv. This just means that the same car cannot be run in both classes as a means to see if someone can get a better outcome with the same car. No second chances.

Got it and good point...I can't find it now but I do remember seeing that point being addressed before, open class motor/batt combo "has" to be a faster one than HFAY's spec 70/3500/nimh.

Running the 3500KV in a different car still qualifies for open class. in most cases these will be in 2 Cell Lipo powered cars and do have a significant power increase over the the 3500 with the Nimh batteries.

So Say you are running a GLA or GLR with a 2S lipo and a 3500kv seneored brushless motor with a Lexan body. I considered this an Open Class car as it doesn't fit in the Standard HFAY Class.

Ray is correct you are not allowed to use the same car and run both classes.

Which is why status of rules for this class are requested. So long as it makes it clear that a Racer class car cannot participate in Open class all is good.

By the Lipo logic, you could indeed run a 3500kv or 70T motor on a Lipo cell and compete in Open Class. I had not thought of it that way but is correct. By battery or motor selection of a combination of the two, Open Class must be required to exceed the rules for Racer Class. Otherwise, you’ll find someone trying to skirt the intent and run a similar/same car in both. Club judges are the front line gate keepers on following the rules so any help we can give them in making the intent clear, the better.

I have revised the Season 28 Manual to include some info on the Open Class, please look through and let me know if you see anything I've missed.
