1. Do I need both programs if I want to program AD and ASF cars?
2. Why is there so much cable in the package? (there really aren't any explanations around that i can find and since it seems I only need one cable from the usb interface...)

I wonder what rocket scientists say to their coworkers when one of them doesn't get it?
1 You need the ASF program for the 2.4 ASF cars, and the AD program for the AD cars. So, you need both.
2 There are other connections, to adjust larger servos and ESCs... I think you can also make adjustments to certain transmitters as well... although, you may need an adapter as well for the Helios.
To set the cars, you only need the small 3 wire that goes from the USB to the ICS port on the car. Black goes back (thats how I remember the orientation).
Hope this helps.
