MR03 RWD & MR-03EVO 5600KV Questions
Okay, just a couple questions. I currently have three RWD MR03 Ready Sets. Am I understanding correctly that the PN 70t motor can be used without harming the board in these RWD sets?
Also, I was thinking about purchasing a MR-03EVO 5600KV chassis set. I haven’t ran any of the brushless systems available. I only have a mini 96 set up, so a 5600 would be overkill.....but might be fun. Would a 3500 motor in the EVO be comparable to a 70t PN motor in the RWD?
Thanks in advance for any advise/thoughts.

I know the RWD's are very similar to the Sports boards. It might be risky to put it the 70, maybe if you put the motor cap on the 70T just in case.
the 3500 and the 70T are pretty close when running AAA's. We race them together regularly. the 70T still comes out on top most of the time, but that's just driving. both speeds will be good for the mini-96 (you would be holding back) as the speed will be fast than most can carry on the smaller width track.

I would get the 4100kv EVO ARTR, which comes with a gear differential (same as RWD diff). The 4100kv motor should be a good match for 70t within the kyosho gearing range and would save the expense of buying the 3500kv.

We are allowing the 4100 in our stock class this season and i actually prefer it over the 3500. It’s certainly not a speedy motor but delivers it well in my opinion. On stock 6t, it’s much slower actually. Not unusual for me but I can drive the 4100 much harder than the 3500 without the top end speed. Still only 1 month into this season for us so hard to tell with numbers but i feel like I can drive this to better results.
The upside to the 4100 kit is, for us, a true brushless buy and run right out of the box stock class chassis. No motor swaps, parts swaps, etc., just buy and run which is a boon for anyone looking to get into our stock class with BL setup.

I appreciate the responses fellas! I have spotted a couple 4100 chassis and more than likely will go that route. Now I’m trying to figure out if I want to get the futaba radio for it, or the KT-432PT. If I get the KT-432PT I can use it for my three RWD chassis as well. I’m kind of torn, because if I get the futaba, I can also use it for my crawlers and tamiya kits.....could just use the stock radio for the RWD.
Also, anyone else have any thoughts about dropping the PN 70t motor in the RWD? I know briankstan suggested it might be risky. I guess I could pm Jim about it as it seems that some are running that in the mini 96 challenge. At least they state RWD chassis and PN 70t in some of the speed results listed.

On the RWD cars I have had zero issues with 70T as well as a couple Super Stock cars running 48T motors over the last 20 months and tens of thousands of laps on my Mini 96.
Speaking of the Mini 96 Track come take a look at the Mini 96 World Challenge.

Thanks for the information on 70t Jim. I certainly wouldn’t mind jumping in on the challenge. I have always ran on the rough side of rcp. So, I’d have to remove all the rails and turn track over and put rails back in place. I will try and do that when I can set that time aside.
Question, does the 4100 brushless chassis fit in anywhere regarding the challenge?

We’ve been running the 70T in stock cars for years. Just take care with adjusting the spacers for clearance and proper gear mesh and your fine. If too tight, it leads to fractures in the motor mount as it heats/cools repeatedly under the stress. It runs much cooler than the stock motor for sure, which is primarily why most series move to 70T to prevent thermal shutdowns and melting motor pods. The stock motor just isn’t made to handle full throttle races of 10+ minutes. Shorter races are fine and great for tooling around at home, etc. some clubs even limit box stock races to 5 minutes which is crazy short in my opinion as one crash and your race is over for the most part.

Thank you sir!
I just want to dot all my i’s and cross all my t’s.
I was getting the impression the 70t would be fine with what I researched. But, I wanted to be safe and not sorry.
