Hankook Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

Hankook Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

More images HERE.

Materials:
Krylon Red Pepper
Krylon Satin White
Krylon Satin Black
Kyrlon Brilliant Metallic Silver
Tamiya Flat Black
Tamiya Clear Red
Pattos Dijon racing GT300 No. 34 2011 clear vinyl decals at 1:27 scale with background colors removed.

I've probably made Hankook my primary livery on most cars to date. The livery is bold, eye catching and easy to see on the track as well as likely being the only of it's type on the track.
As soon as I bought the ZR1 white bodies, I knew this livery was coming. I tried my hand at adding more detail to the paint work on this one. Not all of it was successful but you won't learn until you try and I plan to keep on trying I got a bit messy on the front grilles as my hand twitched once or twice allowing bristles to reach the background. I could have tried to clean that up but didn't want to start chasing mistakes, making more so left it be for this one.
I like the halo marking on the rear right taillight and may keep this feature a constant through all my ZR1 livery jobs from now on. Its a nice little feature that makes it my own and so far I think it works well.
I did round the front splitter a bit on this one vs. my Michelin ZR1, which I was just to eager to start and get done so took a bit more time to trim it down a bit as it will grab the rail in stock form. Not really a problem if you stay off the rails but I'm still working on that one to...

I kept this livery clean. I may do a 'dirty' Hankook livery at some point, maybe if I do a repeat Hankook ZR1? I have about half a dozen more decal sets in route so lots of livery experiments to do and coming up!

I also went back to Krylon Fusion paints on this one and really do like using these more as they tend to cure much more quickly than the Rustoleum and Colormaster paints. It does tend to come out in mush higher volume though which will take some adjusting in technique to even out next time. I had to wait about 8 hours to start peeling mask tape or risk pulling paint up at the same time and attribute this to laying the coats down to heavy. I normally don't have any issues with that but the Fusion came out super fast/heavy. I believe the Fusion holds up better than the others but will gladly put it to the test

The Hankook livery took some work to re-position some of the decals as the side panels are shorter on the ZR1 than say the 599 or R8. The hood bulge as well too some work to get the decal to lay down, trimmed tight to body line and re-positioned on the next bulge. Overall I think it turned out well. I may paint the back return of the hood bulge black next time but gets tricky on where to stop/start trimming out and easy to go too far.

I have yet to get the windscreen to lay flat under the bonnet. There is so much tension in the posts that it just doesn't want to fit sung to the hood. If I was more patient, I would have used some ballast and let it cure over night but got caught up in the desire to finish this weekend and only let it set for maybe an hour and the gap is larger than I would prefer. I ditched the wipers, can't seem to get them installed with the windscreen gaps anyway.

Having put an entire day into racing the ZR1, it has proven durable as any other, especially the rear spoiler. I wish the design were a bit larger to make decal placement easier to contend with but it holds up well to track wrecks.

Looks good as always. You are prolific. I still have a box of white body "projects" as well as 2 others that are only partway done. You've already finished 2 new vettes. I have one coming in the mail. I am leaning towards the bright yellow Le Mans livery. I always love seeing everyone's custom work.

Thanks. The frequency of my liveries is driven by my level of interest and inspiration. Thus with a new ZR1 being so exciting, I've had lots of interest and inspiration to do them. I already have about 3 in the works. 2 of which are actual C7 liveries. Next will likely be the silver Michelin since the new decals are still at least a week out.
