as you may (or may not) know, i'm usually involved with racing at Tom Thumb hobbies in columbus. Till recently i had no clue a club in dayton even existed until one of their own joined ours in columbus (jokingly i accused him of double dipping). After finding out about this 'other' active club, i couldn't help but to take the one off trip just to see what it was like. Race nights are on monday but since i had the next day off it was no problem going the three hour round trip and getting back late.
Racing miniZs is always a fun experience and Dayton's racing club is no exception. The league is hosted by The HobbyShop which is close to the dayton mall. Their track is about a 10x20 grey ozite carpet set on plywood overlying their slot car table. The lanes are bordered by 1" pvc pipes which is configured to a new layout every race night. Good thing is that traction compound is allowed at this track. There are also talks from Randy the organizer on possibly converting to foam in the future.
The club uses the transponder system which registers data on a laptop. Several classes are held there - stock and mod mr1, stock and mod mr2 and outlaw depending on how many people show up on a given night. (typically 10-15 easy each week). Most classes require rubber compounds but foams are allowed in both mr2 mod and outlaw. There are no overland classes and normally no F1 classes but on a couple of trips there, we've been able to squeeze in some F1 exhibition runs (un-timed).
There were two heats of qualifying for each grouping followed by the Mains. The grid on any given class/group typically consist of at least 3 racers. Those who just finished a run are assigned to turn marshalling duties for the class following.
If you live near or around the dayton area, it'd be worth checking out TheHobbyShop at 153 N. Springboro Pike
dayton, ohio. They race monday nights starting at 7pm. A well organized club and Randy is a great help. Excellent crew of racers.
Here are pics of the track and race group at dayton:
This is your Double Dipper here. I want to thank WestF1 for sharing that note and for being willing to try out our track in Dayton. Also want to invite anyone in the area to come on out and have some fun with us on Monday nights. Its only $3 to race. Even if your a novice driver, we try to help out as much as we can.
Also, I recommend the club at Tom Thumbs. I've been there twice now and everyone seems real nice and down to earth. I plan on being there this Saturday. Hope to see you there.
The following stats was provided by forum member steve p. aka ZZZZ who is a regular at the Dayton club.
These are just the Results of the Mains. Not included are the first and second rounds of qualifying for each group

mod and stock mr2s can have separate classes depending on how many show. If there is a low turn out, then combinations may happen as it did here in the stock 2/mod 2 combo
As you can see they do not race for points. No need i suppose as bragging rights is plenty to feel good about till the next time.
Note my alias is not listed too. That soon will change as I am able to show up more often and post reports from it. I was actually there last week but unfortunately i missed this one due to overtime work. Just my luck too as it looks like there was a good showing.
Thanks ZZZZ for the stats. Always a pleasure to race there again.
