Angry I guess I fried my board...

I was always very careful not to let anything touch the antenna, but I guess I hosed my car anyway, because now as soon as it gets more than a couple of feet, the thing goes nuts. Spotty throttle and steering, both.

*&%#%@!! The antenna wire should come insulated! This is ridiculous. Now I guess I have to mail it in and get it fixed or whatever I have to do. Anyone else done this?

you do not nessacarily have a bad board, check these things as well:
make sure your batteries are new in both the car and the transmitter, the green light means nothing, and sometimes cheap rechargables dont work.
check your crystals, make sure that they are pushed in all of the way and are not loose (on the car and the transmitter)
try a new transmitter, first with your crystals and then try them with other crystals,
check all antenna connections, the wire that comes out, check the little tab and make sure that it is connected, check where the wire joins the board, and make sure that you have not cut or shortened your antenna at all, even a few milimeters makes a difference.
check the capacitators on the motor (the little orange things, and try to solder another one inbetween the motor poles (it will not short anything if you do it right)

i think that this is all, but i will let you know if there is anything else

oh and insulate your antenna right away

I did notice the antenna wire was loose at the fitting that connects to the antenna and screws to the car, so I pulled it off and resoldered it without shortening anything (I did have to strip about 3-5mm off the end of the wire). I have two transmitters and two sets of crystals. I tried swapping the crystals with the other transmitter and got the same results, even after I had resoldered the antenna wire...

My Overland has no such issues with either controller.

Things look grim for our hero.

make sure about the batteries in the transmitter because some cars are more picky than others, try a new motor (the one in the overland is the same as the racer and f1,

and yes things do look grim for our hero
