Arrow Tamiya motors...

I know some of you have seen those tamiya 4wd motors like the Plasma or the atomicly tuned motor... etc. Just wondering if n e one had success with n e of the tamiya motors in their mini Z. Why i ask, cuz tamiya motors are somewhat cheaper than an x-speed. BTW is it a good idea to run a turbo with a tamiya motor??? thanx

I put a Tamiya Torque Tuned in my F1 and lost the speed control. I don't suggest doing this. Just pay the extra $10 and get an X-Speed.

Tamiya nasties

There are various opinions on Tamiya motors.

The majority of Members who have tried them have fried their ESC's.
Some Members use them with a Turbo and experience no problems.

Here's a few threads on the subject:

http://mini-zracer.com/forums/showth...?threadid=1050

http://mini-zracer.com/forums/showth...&threadid=1561

http://mini-zracer.com/forums/showth...&threadid=1728

The Mini-ZRacer.com Shop will have some of their new bearing can motors soon.
Rather spend your money on one of those, they may be a little more expensive than the Tamiya motors, but they are cheaper than a Turbo or an RX/ESC board.

You be the judge

Arrow

I read most of the three links that you provided and I ended up @ this webpage http://vb-blitz.freeyellow.com/Mini4...rs/motors.html now. Some People said that the torque-tuned and Atomic-Tuned are the best choice USING A TURBO with the motor. N e body please comment .

I suggest to you take a look @ http://www.minizworld.com they have a really cool Mini-Z Tools section comming out soon and will contain the "Upgrade Zones" tool.

Another great feature is an online chat thingie they have going on ever there.

my 2 cents!

i've been running the tamiya atomic tuned for awhile now...and it's given me no trouble at all...one of the things is that i think the atomic tuned has stronger magnets, stronger than stock at least...i've run it with and without a turbo with no trouble, but as Rick said, he fried his esc with just the torque tuned...so probably better off getting a turbo first...

well, i've been running with my atomic tuned for around
half a year now, seems to be fine...
basically, the setup i have now is
1. an atomic tuned armature
2. magnets from an o'kami type1 motor (even stronger than the atomic tuned i think)
3. carbon brushes
4. a bbCan though not the one made by squat,
i believe it's the one used by the mini-z motors in the shop
on this forum, the one with two diamonds and an orange endbell...
5. and all this running also with the TLP twin turbo...

no problems so far ;-) but definitely run it with the turbo...
i haven't tried the armature without the turbo
ever since i put it in the bb can...
basically, whether or not it will fit in the squat,
i think it should...
i know some 130 size armatures are a bit thicker,
for me, namely the tamiya ultradash motor,
and that one wouldn't fit in the bb can,
but the atomic tuned fit fine....for me at least....
otherwise, you can always polish down the armature so it fits
