Packing your Z's for Airline Travel

for those of you that have been traveling with you Mini-Z's this year. What's the best way to take them?

Will the Airlines still let you put them in your carry on? are you packing them in a well packed box?

I'll be packing up tomorrow and I'm looking for some tips on getting my gear there safely and not in pieces. Carry on is what I would prefer for my cars, the other stuff I don't have a problem packing in my checked luggage.

thanks for you input.

All my gear fits into a xmods case and those tackle boxes i posted under cars and drivers. I'd say, take only parts you MUST have and you may be able to squeeze everything in.

I would say that tools may be a problem. What I mean would be the screw drivers, pliers and forceps. I just went to California and checked in my tool box, parts box, charger and batteries. I took my cars and radio on-board the plane. It had no issues going through the scanners, besides a few odd looks from the person at the computer screen (then they realized it was a toy car).

bubble wrap is your friend...
i usually wrap the car in bubble wrap, and place it in a crush proof plastic case so it doesn't move around in the case...

in some instances, you will be allowed to carry it on, some cases, you will have to check it in... you can probably ask in advance... but usually to avoid the hassle, i just check them in... especially the tools and parts box...

good luck...

Checking the radio in is also a good idea... every time I carry it onto the plane, the TSA thinks it's a bomb trigger or something and I get my entire suitcase stripped down.

I carry on cars and radio. I check everything else including tools, chargers, batteries, and liquids. I use bubble wrap, and I make sure that it's all easily accessible in case they want to see it. I also leave a set of batteries in a car (with the transponder unplugged) in case they want me to turn it on and demonstrate that it functions.
