New Track in Camp Springs MD

The track is within 10 minutes from the Woodrow Wilson bridge in Camp Springs, MD just two minutes off of the Branch Ave exit. We would like to maybe race on Sats. and maybe a weekday race after work if the turnout is there.

I have met a Pastor for a church that is 95% ready to start racing in a four car garage that he already has a track set up. I helped them install some lights yesterday. I forgot to get a picture. It is as long as Awsome's track but not as wide if we have the guys pitting where the track is. I think that if we had about 15 guys show up we may need to use the other side of the garage also and would be able to make the track larger then Awsome's.

The Pastor wants this to be a family friendly place to race. No smack talk or foul mouths. Just people having fun in a hobby. He is fine with having everyone going to differant track on differant weekends.

He had asked me my thoughts on a fair price to pay for a entry fee. I told him that I thought $8 for one car and $10 for two classes ( if we end up with a couple of classes). We will need to heat the garage with propane and he was going to get a porta john for us racers. What are you guys thoughts on this fee?

The track is no more then two minutes off of the beltway at the Branch Ave exit.

I hope to hear your thoughts.

i would be more likely to make a series here than Awsome RC if gas prices go back up.

the upside, it's great to have an option for many of the Maryland area racers to congregate. growth in our area is a very good thing though. brings more drivers in, more competition and opportunity.

the downside, with Awsome RC catering to some of the Virginia are racers, were sort of splintering as a group which is both good and bad. good to see growth, bad to loose time hanging out with everyone. growth in our area is a very good thing though. brings more drivers in, more competition and opportunity.
not that i'm so cheap that i would not pay for racing but i've got limited funds to work with and naturally, travel expenses are part of that as gas isn't what it used to be. i think the costs are fair. the Ann Arbor club charges i think $15 for the entire day with pizza so it's comparable.

Reason I like Hobby Works and possibly Awesome is lack of any fees. I understand that its to cover heating and such, but we do have alternatives at the moment. If this place were to become a club of some sort with everyday practice available, then fees will definitely be justified.

and there is no reason why a local club could not be started there, similar to what is or may be developing at Awsome RC. I'd rather have several healthy clubs in the region than 1 fractured and low attendance club to be honest. we can then build the membership base back up, rotate interclub events like we used to and work toward drawing larger events more frequently to our area vs. seeing them all go up north.

right now we have metro area racers in pockets around maryland (sort of scattershot but more in the laurel area than anywhere else), northern va and just outside what you would consider northern va south of aquia and i think the choices of locations serves each group well.

I can think of 5 guys off the top of my head that would show up almost every week. If we get the word out I can think of another 5 that would be hit or miss.

Myself, Gary the owner, his son, Melvin, Saint, Vincent, Steve Notingham, Steve Green, Ron, the Barber (can't think of his name),Gary Smith, Duran and his son, Gerry Evans.

Maya and I are interested in running the next Hfay season. So if its reasonable as far as travel expenses and time, we will be there. Hobbyworks is a good location for me of course.

I pulled something in my back last Sat. I did go to work today and finally got to see the doctor today. Going for a MRI tomorrow. With all of this I could not make it out for the practice they did on Monday night. They had six guys on Monday for a practice night. I think that they are planning the first race day for Sat the 26th the day after Christmas. I need to get the address so I can let everyone know.

We have some guys showing up tomorrow at about 3 p.m. Hope to see you there.

The track is directly across the street from the Keiser Permanenta medical center on Old Branch ave in Clinton or Camp Springs not sure of the town. As you come off of the beltway south on Branch Ave stay in your right lane onto Linda Ave. At the stop sign make a left onto Old Branch ave and go about half a mile and the red brick four bay garage is on your right behind a red brick house.

Yes, we have everything to run the races now. We have to set the computer up and make sure that everything is working tomorrow. Guys will be running tomorrow but maybe not racing with a lap counting system but we hope so. Come on by.

We ended up with six racers yesterday. With Robs help we got the lap counter working ( thank you Rob). We had no problems with the core system counting cars.

They are planning on running a race on Monday evenings also.
