Going Smooth.....l

Well, what’s worse than inserting the pins and screw tops on a new mini z track set? Unscrewing them all and flipping track from textured side to smooth side and having to reinstall them!!!

All the years I’ve ran mini z, I have never ran RCP on the smooth side. Before I purchased RCP track way back when, I purchased Eva foam mat from Big Lot’s and used PVC pipe as rails. I didn’t mind it, cars ran pretty good on that. It looks like those mats compared to smooth side of RCP might be fairly close.

I haven’t participated in the mini 96 challenge, but might. So, yesterday, I fired up the you tube on tv and jammed to 80’s rock while I made the change since they run the smooth side. Reminiscing the music of the 80’s rock was fun. I’m getting ready to go downstairs now to set it up since the October layout was posted today.

I've considered switching our club's track. We only run HFAY layouts on 2 wide Ls, but still seems like a big job. Let us know what you think.

Our club tried switching to the smooth side multiple time and with the switch to smooth again, last year, I think we will stick with it this time. Really for no other reason than all the other local tracks went smooth and don't want to make it difficult for crossover drivers.

Once you go smooth and stick with it, i think you'll end up staying that way.

I did two wide Ls, an expansion set, and two wide-radius turn sets by myself over the course of a couple hours. It's not "hard," but I had to take breaks because my hands were cramping up from the repetitive motion.

Well, I probably have ran a total of two hours on the smooth side now. One thing I know I like is that the smooth side doesn’t produce the “dust” residue that is left all over the cars like the textured side did. I love that. The other thing, It feels like the grip is definitely better on the smooth side. I ran the same Kyosho 20’s on the rear and 30’s on the front as I ran on the textured side. I really couldn’t get the rear end to kick out at all. It was almost like the point and shoot feel of the AWD chassis. Not quite, but enough to give me that impression. I will keep running on the smooth side here on out.

it gets better the more rubber you lay down on it. it also collects dust much faster so you don't get to keep that rubber around too long if you vacuum regularly.

It's been my experience that it also reacts to temperature/humidity changes just like the rough side.
