Servo Gears SUCK! Busted another one..
The servo gears are starting to realy tick me off... this time this one broke with out even impacting against anything! it was running good for at least 10-20 laps around the living room before it just went straight with a crunching sound of the servo motor... when I tried to turn... Realy ticks me off, NO impact against the tires!!! Body was on the works.... Wasnt even driving at full stock motor throttle!
This means just turning tight corners slowly can snap a tooth off................... ever since i put this gear in, I never had any impacts that I would think of maybe weakening it either... so it was just a sudden thing.
Are the black gears any stronger? I would have a set of Black Delrins now, if ****** would have actualy sent the part I won and payed for on ebay.... (rolls eyes).
A new servo gear every 2 days is not very cost effective... I think im losing the intrest in Mini-Z.
I guess when you take the 60$ (20$x3) metal gears, and 12 sets of plastic ones, the price is the same...
Need to find some one to make us metal gears, but cheaper .

I know how you feel man, i've gone through at least 5 or 6 of those damn things
Right now i'm running gpm metal gears, i've had a few big hits, with the turbo =)....some that i know for sure were wheels first, and they're still working pretty good, i think they mesh better than that plastic garbage too =)
this is my first post, i hope it worked

In theory they should provide quicker response than the plastic ones due to reduced flex too. Let me know if you want some Drac, email me for a price. Thanks!

The metal gears are 20$ a peice... if or when they are 20$ for all 3.. then maybe I will think about buying them.

Drac, not sure where you're getting your prices but obviously not us! If anyone is interested in these parts please email us for a (less than $60!) quote.

One of my ideas was to make the Lead gear a semi rubber compound... Or at least make that little nub pin doohicky, rubber. That would give it just enough flex to stop stripping that one 9oclock tooth at least not as easily.
Does any one have access to CnC mills (plastic or metal)? I have an idea for a Mini-Z servo saver... but it would be kinda corny.... if the emails I sent to kyosho were actualy read... I would send this one there too . I need the CnC cuz its got small tolerances I can just whip this one up out of my alum plate or plastic junk.
I think it has over a 90% chance of working... so simple its hilarious, maybe other servo makers will try it. The more I think about it the more I think it will work...... muhahah!!!
GPM could probly do it... how do I contact them? If they like the idea I would hope they at least give me some freebies of the idea, if not pay for the idea.

Drac, I have full CNC and molding capabilities, if you want to share the idea...

Well this idea has rather small tolerances... it would require MICRO milling abilities... just how small can u go? If you could cut a front stock spring out of stock (obviously it woundnt work too well) then maybe its small enough, but it would have to go even smaller . Its such a strange idea...
And I dont know if a mold would retain the integrety, I am already trying to do it by molding the existing pieces and modifying them, pain in the butt making the mold... I guess I should use plaster instead of this stupid hardening clay I have . (Sculpey Elasticlay).
Maybe you could go even smaller and make your own servo gears? The teeth would be the hard part I guess. You could change the ratio of them, not that any one would realy want too, but maybe the ratio change would give it less chance to break too. Or maybe just make yer own replacements, what would prevent you from doing it? cost more then buying them? not able too?
Hmm gota find a way to melt down old servo gears and re mold them into new gears .

The expense is in the setup; e.g. it's cheaper to make them than buy them once you've got it going, but the tooling is the expensive part. But don't worry, Mini-ZRacer.com branded parts are on the way!

Well I just made the Primary Servo gear in 3D solid-cad data, the kind most CnC use, if that is of any use . Still have to do the other 2... They should be accurate within .01mm .... I used digital calipers.
But you can make the small teeth on the gear?! what exactly do u have for a machine?

Cool! I'll have to check the machine specs, I have a whole factory at my disposal.

I remember u talking about the shop...
And is there any way I could get access to one of the machines? Like come in and load up my file and hit "print". Its in a solid file wich is suposedly easy to automaticly convert to formats that CnC use... in most cases they use the solids...
If you have one of those FDM machines I would prefer those... or stereolithography. I have a billion things I would make on those things, but they cost too blasted much, its 3500 a month just to rent one of the smaller lower tech ones .
