Painting RCP tracks & rails

I'd like to paint the rails white and red and paint a logo or two across the tiles (for a special event). Any suggestions on the best way to do this? I don't want to mess up traction and I don't want the paint wearing off too easily.

Any paint will mess up traction.....
your best bet is to paint the top of the rails......

i know on our straight away tiles we have checkered flags that comes on it.i think they are a little thicker because of what ever they used. for the worlds philip had different tiles for the straight that had small little boxes for the starting grid.

my opinion i think use a stencil and good paint or do some research and find out what kind of paint/ink they might have used. i think if you do something only do it on the straights. if you want to do a bright color i would start with white and let dry real good.then do what ever bright color you choice. test on the back side of a tile, the side you don't race on. as for what berm said,i would only paint the tops of the rails. good luck, let us know how it works, eric

i've asked in the past and never received an answer as to what type of paint was used for the start/finish line. i have painted our club logo on a tile to see what it would take.
the tile SOAKS up paint. you need to find a thick paint type and preferably one that is textured to not cause slick spots. i don't recall what i used all those years ago but it worked out fine and looked good. it was very time intensive and took way more paint than i had guessed.

if we could get the same paint rcp used, it would be great.

you might be able to use bedliner spray in a can. i know wal-mart sells it and it has a coarse texture to it. might be a good base.let it dry well and then spray it with your color.

arch, now that you mention it.those tiles that have been painted by the factory are real coarse. i bet that bedliner spray might work well.

i would be very careful with that stuff. the surface texture may greatly exceed the textured paint rcp factory uses. you do not want to create road bumps.

Yeah I was thinking about dye for making the rails white and the corners bright red. I don't think it would be good for doing a logo down the straightaway. I'll wait and see if RCP says anything.

i would be very careful, most spray paint will melt foam, i'd test in the bottom of a tile before you go for it

The thing about the bottom of a tile is it has a different surface. It may not react like the open/rough side we race with.

Im thinking you will want some type of silk screen paint that you heat cure for a durable finish.

I would use an exterior flat acrylic latex paint. Sherwin Williams Super Paint, Duron Weathershield, MAB Seashore, Olympic, Behr, Gliden any of your major paint manufactures make one.

This stuff will stick to anything and should not melt the foam because it is latex. The acrylic resins in the paint will enable it to flex with the foam so it should not crack with any movement of the track.

The flat finish should give it some what of rough texture that won't be slick.

I've done this. it doesn't really seem to affect traction much.

I did the logo on the main race surface as well as on some of the rails. I used an enamel spray paint. it doesn't create a slick surface, it turned out like the starting strip texture that comes on the RCP track Surface.

the most important tip that I can give is to put on a lot of light layers, and let them dry in between coats. the paint drys quickly on the foam surface.

this has been on my track for 5 years now.

That's cool and now I can put "chicane of death" and "SaiTam's corner", etc.... on the surface.
