high speed banked corner ??

Iv been drawing up plans for a 180 degree banked corner with a 40 degree bank. It has a 8' outside ,and 3' inside radius. HIGH SPEED !! Its not as easy as I thought it would be. I cant seem to find ,in a web search, any plans or old tricks used by slot car track makers. You know,, the huge banked one piece slot car tracks.

I have a plan drawn which uses a "O"gee pattern (sheet metel fitting) to achieve a smooth transition from floor to corner angles, and plan to build from a plywood base, with cardboard ribs (more than 85!) and a cardboard running surface with ozite (sp) carpet over.

Any recommendations? urls?

thanks

Mike

i had a plan for a big high banked 1/2 oval 1/2 road course. I was thinking of a styrofoam base to form up the banking, the cover it with a plaster like substance, that i can add to, and sand back as needed to get the smoothest transitions between flat track and banking, then you could cover the plaster in your favourite racing surface.

thats my idea, hope it gives you some

Yes

Thats interesting because I thought foam would work well also, but I thought I might cut using the hot wire method. The jig would not be to tough, but the length of the wire, and the fact the two seperated pieces would fuse back together as the wire passed would cause problems.

Sanding by hand my work, but it would be nice to start from a known surface, then modify. But you would have a concave surface.. which would be hard to carpet..

Its an idea i got from my friend who has a large model railway, with mountains and tunnels, he use styrofoam blocks then, shapes them with a wood rasp, plaster to give amazing detail plus its lighter than all wood.
