Corvette Racing Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 - Covid 19 Special

Corvette Racing Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 - Covid 19 Special

Materials:
Rustoleum Metallic Finish, Bright Coat Chrome
Krylon Gloss Red Pepper
Krylon Gloss Black
Pattos CorvetteC7RGTE-No63-LeMans-2019 clear vinyl decals at 1:27 scale with background colors removed.

I've done this livery a couple times now and well, going on 3 weeks of stay at home is pushing me to try more new things. This time I've decided to use a chrome spray paint on the entire body vs. just bits and pieces. I've tried many types and this particular brand seems to yield the most chrome like finish vs. just a silver metallic.
Be warned however, this brand goes on this and remains very delicate. I applied 3 light coats before hitting it with a heavy coat to get a smoother finish on top. I let this cure for 3 days and still able to leave finger prints so as expected, thick coats take forever to fully cure, if they ever do. The finish remains soft to the touch and leaves a residue on your fingers. The price you pay I guess for a decent chrome finish. At some point I'm going to try the Molotow chrome paint pens but they are not cheap. In bright day light, it looks more like a very clean mill finish vs. mirror or chrome.
Overall, I wanted to use minimal application of other colors, only as detail accents. It takes a couple light coats for the Krylon to lay out over Rustoleum and wanted to minimize chances for wrecking the finish.

I tested Rustoleum gloss clear on a cardboard panel and the results looked like a crazed chrome so instead, I went with the usual 3 coats of floor polish.

Given the less than durable nature of this paint job, it's unlikely that this one will see track time. Overall, I really like this livery in particular and wanted to make myself a bit of a trophy being stuck at home for my 3rd week so far. I'm also about 3-4 cars deep so far and one timing bridge.

Man, I REALLY LIKE this livery and scheme. Great job as usual. Definitely wouldn’t run that......it’s a looker. That’s one you just sit back and look at for a bit and smile.
