Redline Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

Redline Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

More images HERE.

Materials:
Krylon Gloss Red Pepper
Krylon Gloss Vintage Grey
Krylon Satin Black
Pattos Crvette C7R - Redline No 64 - 6Hr Shangai - 2018 clear vinyl decals at 1:27 scale with background colors removed.

The proper livery has a metallic silver base however I've been doing a lot of those recently and always wanted to do a dark grey so I changed this one up a bit and swapped the silver for grey and very happy with the results.
With a limited color palette on this one, it remains well detailed. All the base, stripes and accents are painted with only the graphics being decals. Taping off the tiny chevrons on the rear spoiler proved a challenge. I'm just not a dextrose with my fingers as I once was and the surfaces are TINY.

VERY happy with how this one turned out and already thinking about the next one!

Looks great! The red accents really looks sharp on the grey base.

I don’t intentionally make any shelf queens. I fully expect to run each and every one on a track myself or those that end up receiving them, when time allows. I do however have a back log of bodies that I’ve Painted and simply have not had the opportunity to utilize. I have 3 painted C9 Autoscales that don’t even have a chassis to run on thus only one has been used for a single event. I now have 3 C7’s and only running the Michelin livery at the moment.

Like racing, painting these is just a part of the hobby and stress relief. If I’m not having fun or enjoying it, I take a break. Painting also comes in fits and spurts based on level of interest, availability of bodies, intensity of spark or inspiration which ebbs and flows over time. I may end up painting 6 bodies in a period of 2-3 months and not do another for 6 months or more. Right now, the C7 is a new, fresh, great looking body and there are a good number of livery options to choose from so my inspiration level is high at the moment. I am starting another C7 tonight but this one will likely be my last for awhile as I will try to give myself some breathing room so as not to burn myself out on the C7. I also need to buy more...I’ve run through my inventory much quicker than I anticipated. . All in all, It’s very much worth it to me as I get to enjoy the hobby via this additional route and practice and explore creative choices, means and methods, etc. I don’t really hold any of these as more precious than an Autoscale. For me, it ends up costing about the same as an Autoscale with the bonus of being unique and individual vs. one of many on the track. The detail and beauty of the Autoscale is what pulled me into Mini-Z to begin with and what keeps me hooked today. You may notice I don’t have any lexan bodies for this reason . They simply don’t interest me as they break the model scale to borrow a Maker’s phrase, by eliminating all but the most rudimentary details.

Sorry for the long winded reply.

I fully appreciate that perspective. I also enjoy the "model building" aspect of Mini Z. I might even enjoy it more than the actual racing, when it comes down to happiness per minute.

One of the things I like about running the custom bodies I make is it takes some of the pressure off of painting perfection when you know it's going to get a little beat up anyway.

That’s one of the reasons why i try to document them with photographs in these type of posts before I put them on the track.
