Futaba 1/20th Indy Car

Check out that drive train! But I don't think it moves. It looks fixed. Can't tell if the rear is a moveable plate or not.

Looks pretty good, lots if mini-z similiarities. The motor, the 2 pairs of AAA batteries, even the motor terminals on the ESC look the same.

Hrm, it looks very toy-like in the pics - and only one body style (Delphi #8) is available?!

Great Planes

Maybe they collaborated on this? Hmmmm....

In the US, Kyosho is distributed by Great Planes.....and Futaba is distributed by Great Planes. Coincidence????

Maybe we will soon see Futaba Radios in the MiniZ kits...LOL!

I've seen this at LHS but never really cared to investigate its potential,

I really think that rear end set up is very attractive.

I read an article in RC F1 web site and they say they are pretty good. Said they are pretty fast and handle well. One of the things I do not like is they do not have a driver. I would think that watching an open ****pit car would look funning moving with out a driver.

They were at the Hobby/Model Show. It definately looked like reworked Mini-Z Racer parts. It also looked really fragile with fixed one-piece suspension parts.

Tower Hobbies has these on sale now for $49.95 ready to run. I just order one. From what I under stand the motor are the same as the mini Z. Well post my opinion on this car after I get it and run it.

Futaba Delphi Indy Car

I received my Futaba Delphi Indy car today from Tower Hobbies. I know a lot of people do not like Tower but I have had nothing but GREAT service from them. I order my Delphi on 2/2/03 late in the day and received it on 2/6/03 early in the morning. I all ways get my parts from them quick and I have placed no less then 10 orders with them in the last 6 months. I even bought a fuel pump for my nitro tucks from them and it was bad and they sent a new one no charge. I did not even have to send the bad one back now I have extra parts for the good one.

First impression of the car is good as all the lettering on the car is painted or silkscreen and not stickers. The only thing I do not like is it does not have a driver. Before I even drove the car I had to see what was inside so I took it apart to see. The body is held on with 3 plastic C clips around screws and they are a pain to take off and on so changing the batteries is not fun. For me it is easier to take the screws out and in then the C clips. I am going to see if I can replace the C clip with the ones that come on the mini z overland suspension as they are much easier to take of and on. They are just like the ones on the front king pins of the mini z F1. Sorry the ESC board will not fit in the mini z as it is about 3/16 to ¼ longer and wider then the mini z. The motors in the Delphi are the same thing as the stock mini z except the connation wires are shorter. This is good, now I can put a motor from Mini Z workshop in it as I have two on the way. I replaced the plastic bushing with the bearings used to replace the bushing in the mini z; the only problem is the Delphi has 4 on the rear where the mini z has 3. While I had it apart I ran in the motor. The wheel nuts are the same thing as a mini z so now I will have to get a set of the metal ones for it. The Delphi has the same type of suspension in the rear as the mini z street racer, H bar. In the front it has suspension like the mini z F1. I put the car back together to see how it runs and handles.

I used my stock mini z transmitter as I have 3 mini z’s and when I switch which one I am running it is easier to change the crystal then the batteries until I get my M8. The crystal from the Futaba transmitter fit just fine in the mini z transmitter, but I had to change the revering switch so the throttle work correctly. The Delphi has a little less pick up and top speed comparison with the stock mini z but that could be do to the size and weight as this is a 1/20 scale car. It is around 2 inches longer then a mini z F1 and about a 1 inch wider. Can wait to my motor from Mini z Workshop gets here. The Delphi handles as well if not better then the mini z F1. Once again the size and tire size is probably the reason.

For the price I will have in the Delphi I think it is a good car. Tower has this car on sale right now for $49.95 and after I sell the transmitter I will have less then $45 in it including shipping. Wish they made up grades and hop ups for it. Like I said before the only thing I know you can change is the motor, ball bearings instead of plastic bushings and the wheel nuts. Might see about a FET up grade later.

If any one has a questions fill free to email me.
