In the meantime, I've been buying, building and generally putting a bunch of time in my mini helis. As mentioned before I already have a few Gaui helis, including a 200 V2 FES. So I wanted to get another, and got this 200 SE v2 on a great deal from the bay of E. It was complete as you see it here, the only thing I added/changed was the Canomod canopy and some new batteries.

The other heli is an EXI clone of the Trex 250, stuffed into a Fusuno Airwolf fuselage. The EXI is nearly 100% compatible with the Trex 250, with the possible exception of the base plate and landing struts. The Trex has a separate base, front and back struts and skids. The EXI base and struts are one piece. Other than that it looks like a perfect clone.

The Fusuno Fuselage is a great looking piece witha very nice finish. The only complaints a I have about it are the weight (135g) and the landing gear struts which are made of flimsy plywood.

By installing a bigger motor (HDX300), I was able to overcome the weight issue, and have enough power to lift a bigger battery as well. The current AUW complete with 1000mAH 3S LiPo is 502g.

So here are a few pics of the 2 helis. Just for fun, I thought it would be cool to show you these in 3D, so put on your anaglyph (red/blue) 3D glasses, and enjoy.
Nice pictures, I really need to get some 3D glasses.

Regards,
John

This project has been a lot of fun. The helicopter flies very nice. It is extremely stable and has plenty of power.

Hi all,

I finished the MD500E CHP build and it came out very nice. Here's Stage 10: Flying and Final Project.

I'm flying very conservatively as I don't want to destroy this little machine to quickly.

A few pictures of the final project.

Inside pics of my current Walkera 4#3b, fitted with an Aero Outrunner b/l Motor + Aero ESC, so much quick + better battery life than the stock one

Hopefully next i can get some MIA upgrades such as a new frame but import will be alot (anyone know of any MIA distributors outside the US?)

edit: apologies for image sizes

Hi,

Thanks for posting. Could you please resize your pictures so they are more suitable for forums? A bit smaller would be better.

As far a after market parts are concerned, Jason at Micro Heli Concepts is developing a new CF frame for the 4#3B/CB100 which looks very nice.

He's in Australia so shipping to the UK should not be a problem and he's a very nice mate to work with.

Regards,
John

Yes I will.

In fact Jason is sending me one of his first frames to build so I can give him feedback regarding the design and assembly. I should receive it shortly, I'll post here when I have it in hand.

Another friend of mine has just started manufacturing a new rotor head for the 4#3B/CB100 called the TechHead. It's a modified Bell/Hiller design with a 54ş flybar which is killer, very stable and responsive at the same time. I'm in the process of building one for Jason's new frame right now.

I'll post some pictures of the TechHead here when I get it finished.

Regards,
John

installed my Bell Hiller mod a few days ago, and to say the least was initially very put off by it. When first testing it, the helicopter was extremely sensitive (cant even describe how sensitive it was compared to normal (and i have it on a high sensitivity)). This put me off it at first, but then i remembered that i changed the balance bar pins to use the wider/longer holes on the swashplate because this was known to improve stability on a stock rotor head. After realising this, i now changed them back, and put the Bell Hiller mod ones onto the longer ones, which dramatically changed the handling and characteristics of the helicopter and made me want to fly it again! I guess i just had it wrong to start with hehe - unfortunately i didn't receive an instruction manual with it so i was just following a topic with images on helifreak, which doesn't mention which ones to use etc! Anyway ramble over, here's some pics with the outrunner motor also.

apologies for poor quality on some, my phone camera kinda failed at focusing in this light!

MIA frame coming soon with a few other MIA upgrades
