Introduction of a stock class
So we've been racing for 2 years with good turnouts week after week. I'm looking to change things up a bit by introducing a stock class that mirror's Kyosho's EX class. Stock car with just bearings and an oil shock.
I'm considering moving to a "standard" aftermarket t-plate.
Anyone had experience within the PN line of t-plates on which number stiffness (mr-02 and mr-03) is most like the stock plastic t-plate? I'm shooting for PN because you can buy one off plates vs Kyosho which offers them in $15 sets of soft-med-firm.

Sounds like a nice affordable class to me. I just moved to Hanover Park Il. from North Carolina. Looking for a place to race Z's around here. Am I close to you're track?

Here is a map.
For access to an R/C track, I consider less than a half hour close. So yes, we are close
Next race is this Sunday at 1pm but we are there as early as 11:30am. We have an 11:30am-12:30pm kids session then 1-4pm is all ages (primarily older guys).

What other classes do you have? I am interested in a decent used mr-03. And PN parts.

The goal of the club has been for everyone to get as much track time as possible. I hate a typical R/C event where if you only own 1 class of car, you spend WAY to much in the pits waiting.
For that reason, we only run the one class which is similar to PNWC 70t and the HFAY rules.
We are considering a box stock class but I'm not pulling the trigger on that until all racers have a box stock car. Club cars will be used to fill the gaps if a few people don't have one.
There has been talk of F1 but that is unlikely to happen. However, we do have 3 racers that own one plus I have a few people can borrow. Usually when the race is over at 4pm and I'm packing up, the F1 cars come out for some runs.

remnant race track recently added a box stock class for very similar reasons and it has proven to be very popular. while it hasn't brought in new drivers yet, it's a great platform to do so. they currently run 3 classes; kyosho stock, 90mm, mod (run what you want). i highly recommend a stock class for affordability alone. toughest part is motors get hot when geared high and choice in rule modifications. we also permitted any aftermarket h plate so you don't have to keep buying parts kits to get the stock h plate. 95% run an LM car for the stock rear damper it provides.
F1 is a struggle just about everwhere. we have plenty of them as well but never sem to get around to actually racing them.
good luck!

I planned on Following the Kyosho EX class.
-Bearings
-Oil Shock
-AutoScale bodies (Folks are asking about allowing white-bodies)
ALSO
-Allowing any after market t-plate
There is a part of me that also wants to make the stock class a 90mm class. Not sure if that is a good or bad idea.

interesting, was not aware they permitted the oil shock. we have to jump on that option as well. forgot we also allow white bodies provided all parts are included and not hacked, cut up. also allow 4th servo gear replacement as those tend to break. seems like were both on very similar paths

I'm open to items that don't improve performance being allowed outside of the bearings and oil shock.
For example, a metal 4th gear won't win races but it will keep you running in a bad crash. Also considering Alloy front clips and Alloy wheel nuts.

We where also talking about the front springs. On the yellow car the kit comes with a set of all the different spring rates in the kit.

Of course, it's and SP chassis set. It comes with bearings, diff , etc. the same for any SP chassis set.

We made it clear that if we did this, the term "The ONLY option parts allowed on the car" was part of the rules. We aren't after box stock so much as limited option parts as the SP cars come with a bunch of option parts installed.
I'd have to leave springs out of it. I'm contemplating a 7t pinion limit as the 8t and 9t pinions can really extend the difference if you end up with a "strong" stock motor. I'm even thinking a specific T-plate replacement as opposed to any t-plate but that might be harder. Even we don't fix the t-plate to a specific unit then that might be the only avenue of suspension tuning.
I know the KYOSHO EX class limited themselves to Kyosho brand tires but I'm willing to go with any rubber tire.

i agree with you. i would be very hesitant to begin including option performance upgrades that have no bearing on durability. that is a slippery slope to HFAY like scenario in my opinion. Absolute box stock is not practical given the stock parts distribution within parts kits but the overall goal is to keep everything as even keel as practical.
i very much look forward to see how this turns out for you guys.

A general opinion I felt worth sharing. At least at our skill levels, any amount of hopups on a car running a Kyosho stock motor make very little difference. Skill has plenty of keep up before those motors pods and damper systems start giving you an edge that is difficult to make up for with skill alone. This is bigger gap when you have a 70t motor that runs well but I can STILL beat 80-90% of the field in an MR_02ex with just bearings.
That said, the PERCEPTION is there and simply cannot be overcome. I've tried for 2 years. I can point out that getting "blown away" in the straight away (or passing someone) amounts to nothing after a crash. But no one likes getting passed by a faster car. Regardless of what the real world value is to the lap time. I almost feel most folks would be happy if we just fixed the motor to Kyosho stock and a 7t max pinion and still allowed all other hopups. but the PERCEPTION is they can't be competitive so they go to excuses far quicker then more practice.

Start with Carbon 5. It is a little stiffer than the stock plastic plate, but the stock plastic ones are a little flimsy for RCP.
